    My Duck stopped laying

Seems they shouldn't have even been laying every day, so I'm glad these girls are laying less frequently if it means they're taking breaks.

    My Duck stopped laying

Lmk if this should be posted somewhere else! :) Context: I own two female ducks, one (Shortcake) a khaki campbell and the other one (Muddy) I believe a khaki campbell and rouen mix (her feathers are almost exactly like a rouen except without the patterning around the head, and as a duckling she...

    Duckling jerking head, lopsided chest??

Happened right after he started to very enthusiastically eat food. It wasn't much food, though. He also pooped and it was much drier than usual, but I don't know if that's relevant.

    Duckling jerking head, lopsided chest??

Please help. His chest has a bit of a lump on one side which to be honest has been there a while but a few minutes ago as he was eating I also noticed him having difficulty breathing. I took away his food and encouraged him to drink water, and tried massaging from his neck to his belly. His...

    1 Week Old Duckling Limping

He does lean on one leg but the bad leg is also angled oddly-- his "elbow" is more outward than his good leg, his feet face inward more, and when he lays you can see it pokes out a bit more than his good leg.

I'm not sure what constitutes as bending properly as when the duckling is sitting down, their leg at where it meets their body is higher and more out than on the left. They could just be holding it to minimize pain. I will take your advice and not take any drastic measures yet and let the...

    1 Week Old Duckling Limping

It's difficult to take videos from inside the brooder because there's a wire ceiling to it on which his heat lamp sits, so I took him out for a couple of minutes with a desk lamp to take these videos. You can see he leans on his good leg an the other one sticks out at the "elbow" and has his...

    1 Week Old Duckling Limping

I was going to incubate again in the spring, but everyone is suggesting I get him company sooner, so I am looking around for ducklings for sale. :)

    1 Week Old Duckling Limping

I will try to get a video up soon. He is eating and drinking slightly less than normal but he makes it a point to visit his waterer and feeder at least once an hour. His poop is normal and healthy. As for Muddy's leg: I don't see any warm spots or swelling. It bends normally. I'm starting to...

    1 Week Old Duckling Limping

Yes, he is. He's gotten far less enthusiastic about it as the day has gone on, however.

His feed has 35 niacin/lb so I think I'm good on that front. I'll try to see if I can find that Vitamin B complex, thanks. How long do you think I should wait to see if his leg gets better on its own? A couple days perhaps? Or longer?

I do, yes! The farmer I bought hatching eggs from suggested we try again in the spring so hopefully some time next year he'll have a buddy. For now people have been giving great advice for substitution companionship for him. I think I'll try putting a mirror in his brooder.

I'll try to get in contact with a vet at some point soon, yes.

Here's a picture of Muddy (from when I took him out of the brooder for a solid minute to take better pictures to try and figure out what breed he is. I settled on a Welsh Harlequin/Khaki Campbell mix.)

He's also been sitting (if that's the right word for it-- he's basically laying with his stomach on the ground and head raised) a lot.

I've been wanting to raise some ducks for a few years now and this fall I actually did it. Only one egg made it unfortunately but I'm going to try again in the spring to see if I can't get this duck some company. His name is Muddy and as of now, he's a week old! I finally joined because I've...
