What a well thought out and expertly crafted coop! We use a carabiner hooked into the hole of our latch. It is tied with a string so it is handy to lift back up and click into the hole. We have caught raccoons on our front porch cameras so we know they are in the neighborhood.
Are the Ideal 236 hens very chatty? I am looking into this breed but don't want to add really noisy birds in my backyard. I have a Black Sexlink and an EE that just "yell" in the morning. It may be that they are asking to be let out. I have 2 EEs, a New Hampshire Red, 2 Golden Comets and the...
Thank you for this. I had bought spinach for them to eat as a treat. I wonder if kale has the same issue. They love fresh greens. Only one of my hens is laying the soft shelled eggs for over a week now. I gave her some calcium citrate today and will see if that works.
I just noticed this in my hens this week. What was the resolution to seeing millet seeds in your flock's poop? This was from my 3 year old Ingrid. She has known oviduct issues and has not laid an egg in nearly a year.
That sounds great to me. When are you going to Brentwood Tractor Supply? I work full time but happen to have Thursday and Friday off this week (prev vac request, plans got cancelled but I kept the days off) Weekends work for me, too.
My garden is in raised beds with additional pots on the patio. Today I trimmed frost damaged branches on four of my tomato plants that are surviving our winter. I have kale, chard, beets, garlic, potatoes, tomatoes, 3 kinds of peppers, passionfruit, strawberries and herbs right now. I'll have to...
She's pretty! How many hens/roosters do you have? What city are you in? In Oakley, we are limited by our city ordinances to only 3 hens. Here are my two:
Hello! We are in search of a pullet that is old enough to stay in our coop. We cannot do the chick/warmer option right now. We have two hens are are looking for one more since three is our limit in town. We live in Oakley, east bay area of northern California. We have had our coop only since...
The local feed store did have a name of a person who takes in roosters. I am not sure if they re-home or cook them. She has not returned my message yet but it is nice to know that there is an option like this.
Ah, I re-read and understand now. I am not sure where to get hens that are actually hens but I will research. Is there a way to know if any of these BYC members are near me in California?
