It's weird the way she is changing what she will eat each day. I wonder if she 'knows' what her body needs and doesn't need at this point. Like for 3 days she'll only eat banana and insects and then the next day, she loves tomato but not banana.
I bought a bird food mix for insect-eating birds, its not to kill the parasites. I've been bringing her inside at night nice and warm, I started her on antibiotics yesterday and she is a pretty perky today, enthusiastically looking for bugs, but ANY food I offer her, she picks it up in her...

My syringe was too narrow to suck up the insectivore paste. Will have to get one tomorrow and try again. I'll be interested to see if she is more interested in eating tomorrow. She pecks at the food and throws it around in her mouth but then drops it...
Thanks for your reply. I've heard about tube feeding into the crop but don't think I'll attempt this. Just wondering why I can't just syringe some liquid food down in the same (fairly simple) way I just gave her antibiotics - which seemed quite a thick fluid? Is this possible?
As I've recently posted, my 3 yr old Isa brown chicken has been sick for about 6 weeks (just diagnosed with salpingitis) iand has become extremely underwiegtht before I noticed she wasn't eating her grain. For the last 10 days I've been feeding her various specially prepared treats but she eats...
Thanks for that. I successfully syringed some antibiotics in without choking her (phew!). Now I'm wondering if I could suppliment her diet (as she is beeing very fussy and VERY thin) with some insectivore mix syringed in the same way. What do you think?

My chicken is sick and losing her appetite but went crazy over the dark rye sourdough toast with butter and Vegimite (Australian marmite), so I let her eat some and then went and looking it up. Apparently the Vit B and yeast is great, but its very high in salt so overall, no good!
Many of the symptoms sound like my chicken atm including -comb dark on ends, lethargic, not bothered with food unless it's a treat, drinking water. My chickens poops are green and YELLOW though, not white, and solid not watery. I also saw fluid coming out her beak a couple of days ago but...
Thanks for you reply, I did read elsewhere that they rarely recover. At the moment she is quite happy but tired and weak. So no point trying antibiotics you'd say?
PS. Great video, thanks for sharing that
My chicken has been ill for at leat 6 weeks - weak and puffed up and getting prgressively thinner. I found one strange rubbery small 'egg' a while back but didn't pay any attention but just found another one (about 8mm diamater) next to her latest poo. She is a 3 yr old Isa Brown and I...
Thanks for the reply Eggcessive, I was concerned that if it is a 'gut' problem, that anitbiotics could make it worse by killing the healthy biota. Do you know of any illnesses that can be made worse by using anitbiotics?
I have a 3 year old Isa Brown and I noticed she was ill 6 weeks ago. Took her to the vet who had no idea. He said she had a sllight temperature but it was a VERY hot day, and she was underweight. Since then she hasn't improved and has gradually been going off her food and now is not perching...
