Before placing anything else in his beak you need to watch his breathing. If he's having difficulty breathing, or is breathing rapidly, then he will most likely aspirate any liquids you place in his beak. Without any type of IV hydration or antibiotics the most you can do is try the karo or...
I don't intend to raise any, just want to keep these as pets, especially since I don't know their age. I doubt I need any type of permit since I'm in an unincorporated area.
I'll be building a fairly large cage and will watch for any aggression. I raised hookbills in the past so I understand...
To answer some questions........I live in an area where there's a mix of homes with 5 acres and farms with large acreage. The quail were found on the edge of Wetlands so there wouldn't be any hunting in that area but people can hunt on their own property. I rarely hear guns being fired and...
Well, I drove by the same area today and found 4 more! 2 had been hit by cars. I think it's the last ones since I did a search of the area.
Crash, here's a photo of one caught this afternoon. He's in good feather and is smaller than the others but shows the best coloring. They all...
Thanks everyone! Shows what I know about quail!
It's been a couple of hours now and he has perked up. Preening, stretching his body upward and stretching his wings. I had a large finch cage so I put him in there for now.
Birdaholic.......I'd take you up on that if I lived nearby! If he...
I found this chick in the middle of the road on my way home today. Nearly ran over it in a round-about, made another loop and stopped right beside it and picked it up with no problems. It looks a little stressed and weak, but is eating and drinking.
Possibly a grouse?
Here are the pics. Your code shows multiple 'img' and just doesn't look right! As the previous poster said, just copy the IMG Code on photobucket and paste within the text. Should work!
wc,
I'll pass the info along. I guess you could say she was wild. She just showed up one day and won't leave. The OP has exotic birds in the house and thinks the sound of them keeps her hanging around the property. That and getting fed well!
Apparently he hasn't penned her...........she's free to roam. He did say she goes thru 25 lbs of chicken scratch every 2 weeks, so she's being fed well.
Hello,
Someone on another bird forum posted these pics of a bird that showed up on his property. He lives in Nevada and is trying to identify it. It easily flies and sits on his roof and roosts in the trees. Any ideas??
