    No humidity....?

Summer update. Used my incubator once again, same amount of eggs. Same result. 49 hatched, lost one (It didn't even develop, so I'm assuming it wasn't fertile). :)

    Chicks Pecking Hatching Chicks

A bit of pecking is normal, and being that little they don't really have it in them yet to cause aggressive damage. They're more testing things out at that point... Kind of like a toddler poking his brothers nose and saying "what dis?" lol.. I always like to watch mine explore..:)

    Chicken was attacked

That's a candidate for cell migration.. It's long and drawn out, but you may not have to amputate.. just be warned it takes a lot of time from start to finish, but it is doable. Cell migration is advisable when there is a gaping wound with no hope of stitching together. This can even be as...

    rooster attacked chick

This might sound a little funny, but my wife did it, when one of our chicks needed heating and our power was out. (we have a coal furnace now, so no problems like this anymore.. lol) If the chick is small enough, and you're not afraid of getting too close, Get a long towel and tie it around your...

Common "myth", that people apparently haven't let go of.

You got me wondering, so I made doubly sure everything was good to go.. My feed is amprolium, which can be a hazard if overly consumed (generally by water dosing), however according to the ratio on the bag, it won't exceed the danger level, even if my duck stuffs her little self.. lol.. I do...

Too cold to move chicks outside?

I put some out last week during a snowstorm (4-6 weeks old). I simply put a heatlamp in the corner of the coop. After getting over the shock of being moved out of their brooder (took about a day), they now seem to be enjoying their large space, and have really started working on figuring out...

Common "myth", that people apparently haven't let go of.

I actually had an argument with a young girl at our local feed store the other day. She kept repeating something she was told long ago (that is no longer relevant), and was almost to the point that she wouldn't sell me the materials I required. here's what it was about. I have a few...

    Coop design help

Shade, rain shelter, and enough room for each chicken to have a 2x2' space. 17x6 allows 25 chickens at the most (comfortably). Make sure they can all get out of the baking sun. It's the most dangerous. other than that.. all preference I'd say. Also, depending on the breed, if day ranging isn't...

    Crowing 6 Week Old Rooster?

That's awesome. Most of my roo's don't even attempt a crow until 2-3 months.

    No humidity....?

I have to disagree. If my hatches are coming out this well, I believe I should share. If people are using my exact set-up, with the same mix of birds, it's not unreasonable to believe they'll end up with a high rate as well. Only time will tell. I'll be hatching 50 more in a month. I'll come...

    Please say she’ll live

Chucknorris isn't taken? Suprising. He's the king being a joke meme. >.< Chuck Norris never has to wait for eggs to be laid in the morning... He simply walks in the coop and stares at a hen for 5 seconds. Then leaves with 5 eggs, and a tired chicken.

    Please say she’ll live

It's not too hard. Just bend a needle in a U shape, heat it up, or use alchohol to sterilize it, then once through one side, and once through the other, pull snug (just till the wound is closed) then tie. She'd cluck and maybe squirm on needle entry, but afterwards they're much better off. You...

    Please say she’ll live

My mother had the same thing happen.. A dog got her buff... She got out the thread and needle and put two stitches in her. lol .. It was way worse than yours. it's something to consider. Might be unpleasant, but it will stop infection.
