I just saw this, no idea why I didn't see it warlier.. yes they seem to be!!! beautiful girl, but the way.. ugggg
I've been dealing with aggressive behavior fromtanothwr if the naked necks.. I assumed it was hormones and getting closet to POL... well, lol they now tag teamed and tried to go...
haha yes, I remember when they started chest bumping at couple weeks or so old. haha I have actually thought about separating males from females.. my largest roo (some age) is generally fine (doesn't chase the girls away from the food)... but when he does get in a mood he clamps down on their...
cool thanks... yes they are a mixed bag of surprises!! lol I completely agree about the saddles.. they are flouncy, but not pointy. actually the darker one got super pissy with me today.. has always been sweet but kept trying to attack my hand it if it was anywhere near her. stood my ground...
I think so too!! the feathers people keep saying are saddle feathers are really not that thin and pointy, compared with my roostersof the same age. Any thoughts on the jump and stomp behaviour?
yes.. recent ones.. The wind was blowing Frida's feathers... the last one is a good shot of feathers, but middle one of both of them, shows Tobee's face..
I had something interesting happen today. The 2 in question are both naked necks.. 17 weeks old today. I had Tobee on my lap looking at/inspecting feathers.. after I finished she sat for a minute then jumped down. as Tobee jumped down, Frida stood tall and jumped at Tobee high enough to "stomp"...
they are not laying yet.. but I am adding a couple nest boxes this week in case some starts a bit early. thanks for the heads up, ill be ready in case that starts soon. Matilda, my abandoned neighborhood rescue lays, but she is not in with them.
that's great!! ya mine haven't started laying yet.. though since they are 16 weeks, day after tomorrow ill be preparing a couple nest boxes
this week with fake eggs in case I get an "early girl"
I think she's getting hormonal. much like a teen girl.. so ill have the discussion, ill pin her if I need to. yesterday afternoon I went back in and there were only looks, no aggression. I made it a point to touch her.. pick her up and move her and nothing.. so ill ride through it and see if we...
thanks so much.. yes it was really crazy and unexpected. even the big rooster (same age but size of godzilla lol ) who NEVER wants to be touched in any way, has never done that.
it was quite the shock... Octavia pokes at me to get attention.. it startles me.. but she's never bruised or broken skin.. yes.. ill see if there is something I can do... but ya, I don't wanna be injured.. Thanks..
Hello everyone I really baffled by duchies behaviour today. These guys will be 16 weeks old in 3 days. On February 15th period I have raised them all from one day old.
one of the smallest naked necks, who normally is super friendly, took food out of my hand this morning when I offered it.. just...
Thank you!! yes mix doesn't bother me.. I just mean, I know sometimes with inbreeding etc, it can take its toll healthwise.. since im pretty new to chickens thought I'd toss this out for some input.. im thinking they might have been in crowded conditions? thinking a well rounded healthy diet...
Hey everyone.. I live in Belize. Silkies are VERY hard to find here. A friend that works at the local feed store said the other location, about an hour away has silkies.. they seem to have 5 toes... but skin color on the bigger one is off... feather situation a mess on the smaller... at some...
