To start with: Welcome to BYC.
As far as the duck wing. I have a hen that has recently had a very similar problem I think. From what I could tell her wing has become dislocated or broken and I think all around on the wing side of the joint it has become tight and darker colored with blood. Could...
Ok. That makes some sense. Although I thought that if done properly, through maybe a couple of generations, chicks hatched could turn out to lay almost any random colour of egg.
Could anyone tell me what breeds of chickens to breed to get an Americana/EE. Or just in general how you go about breeding to get Easter Eggers.
Thanks
Carter
So the building is made with a lot of tin, though some of the tin has felt on it. But it has a wooden frame with a few wooden walls. The goal is to let the chickens free range as much as possible. Although probably they are not let out, at least one day out of every week. And depending on the...
I have a concrete pad divided up into 3 pens that would have to be treated, according to you. The pad is about 30 feet long by 5 feet wide. So I have 3 pens that are each about 9 to 10 ft. by about 4-1/2 to 5 ft.
Oh. Help. I don't know if it is possible for me to do all these things. I am not sure if I can even get permethrin over here in Ireland. Also, I have total of about 56 birds including chicks and roosters. So it would be a massive job and probably a good bit expensive as well.
Hi all,
Last night when I was doing chicken chores. I saw a little white-looking something on one of my roosters. I am guessing it was either a mite or a louse. Can anyone advise me on what this is and what to do about it?
Thanks
Carter
Ok. Thanks for your input. As far as weather, yeah I live in Ireland so even during the hottest parts of summer it is almost unknown for the temperature to get much if any above 87 degrees F. But even 87 degrees is pretty rare in Ireland. During most of the summer, I would say the hottest parts...
Maybe. But it could depend on when and how often you move the coop. If you moved it in the evening or when it was about dark, then they wouldn't really sit in much of anything during the night. And you could move it twice a day, morning and evening, which would be even better.
I was thinking of the first one you showed here. I do realize that the weather conditions could make it uncomfortable for chickens in these coops, especially with rain. But as for nowhere to roost out of their poop, the pen would be moveable so you could keep the poop within the pen at a minimum...
@Folly's place So, Mary, I take it that you approve of the coop design shown in the link I gave. With the exception of the hardware cloth being attached adequately.
Yeah! There are no raccoons in Ireland. But foxes can be a pretty big problem. On the kind of land I live on, there could be up...
So here is where I got the idea.
Have a look at that link and see what you think. But the coop idea I am thinking about is toward the bottom. There will be a picture.
In my situation I would have to add protection against foxes digging underneath.
When I said tractor I was more referring to the...
Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone has any input into building a very small and simple chicken tractor. I am thinking of one that is big enough for only 2 or maybe 3 chickens. It needs to be as simple and inexpensive as possible. I am thinking of possibly building a good number of them so that I...
They may fight a bit to figure out who is boss. I haven't generally had much problem with having several roosters together. They just have to figure out who is boss and then there isn't usually much problem.
