    1st hatch

    So I have three chicks that have hatched they are in the brooder. Another six eggs still in the incubator 3 pipping. So exciting! How long should I expect before they drink or eat? I have chick starter and water with vitamin and electrolytes. Anything else they might need?

    I applied vaseline to my roos comb because it was very cold. The next day his comb turned black. Have you ever seen this? Did I apply too much perhaps? Any thoughts on what else it could be? No other symptoms. Would you apply anything else at this point?

    I think that is a great start on your coop plans. Plan for 2-3 sq ft per bird depending of the size of your runs. With regards to your nesting boxes it seems 1 nest per 4 or 5 birds is what is recommended for chickens not sure for other species. Looks like you have room for storage of feed...

    We are excited to be involved in Helping to preserve the Heritage chicken breeds. We are eagerly awaiting and preparing for our 4 breeds of chicks that will arrive this spring. Wyandotte , Australorp, Brahma and Maran. We hope to be breeding for chicks and hatching eggs next spring.
