Here's how they were setup but i think I'll adjust it to be a bit cooler at one end with food and water farther from the lamp.

I'll move the food farther from the heat and add chains, both seem like great ideas. So far they seem happy, they were sleeping in a pile off to the side of the "hot zone" but no wings out. Thermometer has been reading pretty constant 95 so i think i have the heat dialed pretty well.
Saturday's the day, got everything setup and ready for some reds and some anconas to start! Just making sure the brooder will get to temp with 1 light. Might need a second or some insulation... or both, stupid cold weather.
Yeah, it's annoying and at first I was mad even seeing them camp out the speed trap but once you try to pull out onto hwy30 with everyone doing 70 still you begin to appreciate the need.
Yes we're way up in the hills on two acres so noise isn't a problem at all. Closest neighbors all have Roosters, pigs, goats, and whatnot.
We mostly plan to raise a little variety, not a ton of birds, maybe 8ish to start then grow the flock from there.
What kind of purebreds will you...
Just dropped in to say hi! We are Oregon natives but new to this area and just getting our Montessori school and micro farm set up. Looking forward to interacting here!
