Ha! My 90yr old awesome neighbor told me cayenne pepper powder. Works like a charm. Sometimes the simplest thing is the best. Works for other rodents too.
I have not tried these. Sounds great. They are pricey, no? I also have squirrels but the cayenne powder works on them and mice. I do not have a huge problem though.
Love these ideas. I was thinking of a trough feeder that strains the liquid out so I could pour and go without pouring it on the ground and not having to strain it first. Anyone seen anything like that? I was thinking I may have to make something.
Hello. I ferment my chicken feed just like this. Here is a printable page of instructions by Grubby farms. Hope this helps.

Been a while being since commenting here. The flock of eight is still great. We have waited weeks for this last egg producing break due to molting and winter in general. This last storm was super windy and a tornado scare but thankfully no touchdowns.
I only have 8 chickens. I live in central North Carolina USA. We are in dipping into freezing nights. I use a thick rubber bowl, (find at tractor supply) for water. So much easier than the hanging one. I have it on a raised area so they do not get dirt in it while scratching. In the cold months...
I have some molting hens as well now. This is the first year the I have seen a REAL molt on them. Wow. These girls get so weird. The confident ones get depressed and the pretty ones strut around. It is so funny. I was concerned about one of them. Curly. She really is bare in the front and neck...
I have 3 squirrels that like to sneak into the run when I have it open for the hens to range into the larger penned area. We live next to a forest so they are gonna come. The chickens are not afraid of them but also do not defend the area like I thought they might. The squirrels seem to be only...
Yes she is healing. I am also put some antibiotic ointment. Non pain relieving of course. I’m telling you it was chaos while she was away for one day and night then a few nights inside and is now very happy with the flock keeping everyone in line. Her head is purple from the no peck but that’s ok😁
Thanks guys. I sprayed some vetericyn on it and continuing to do so. It is trying to hold on a bit floppy but it is healing already. I have her outside in a cyclone 8x8 kennel with all the basic needs and treats along with her fav nesting box. She can be with the flock and protected from...
Found hen in yard with a partially detached comb on the backside about a 1/4 inch. Blood on her head but it had stopped bleeding. I instantly removed her to the infermary kennel inside. I made sure her nostril were clear. She was calm. She drank some water and ate of course lol. I sprayed...
I put one of those stinky fly traps a few feet away from my run and no flies in run or coop. There are others that do not stink they may work too. Also if you have lemon balm you could try hanging that in there. I found that work in my coop really well before I used the trap. Good luck.
I found some water safety information important to know. It explains quite well why chickens do not swim well. I have a kiddie pool for my hens in the summer. It gets really hot here in NC and they love going in and cooling their feet off. I put stepping stones in it so they do not slip and add...
Okay. I have been dealing with bare butts for a while now. First it was one then two now three. I know it is not mites. I went to TSW and a chicken savvy employee who just happen to be at that store for something else suggested the pick no more. It is an alternative to the blue kote all natural...
