I use wire rabbit cages with no problem. I have a couple of plastic rabbit foot protectors on the bottom of cage . All the droppings and waste fall through, keeps everything nice and clean .

Absolutely not, pigs will likely eat them. Made that mistake myself, thought a fox was getting in but then saw the pigs hunt a hen like a pack of dogs!

There's really no guarantee on egg color and she offered you an exchange. Not her fault that the birds got sick and can't be exchanged. If I were the breeder I would offer a discount or partial credit on replacement birds. Since you are planning to keep the birds I don't think a full refund is...
