@Overo Mare @Frazzemrat1 @The Moonshiner An update! The light golden one is a Starlight Green Egger! She just started laying a few days ago at 16 weeks.

Beautifully! No eggs yet, but one is squatting and I hope to see her eggs soon!

    Welsummers?

@cherrynberry There are two that look similar...now 17 weeks old and not laying yet, but the one pictured here is doing the submissive squat and I hope to find out what color eggs she lays soon!

    Welsummers?

I love Welsummers, but it would be exciting (egg-citing?) to have a more blue/green eggers. I guess time will tell!

    Starlight Egger or Golden Comet?

Interested to know if they turned out to be Starlight Green Eggers or not.

My babies are 11 weeks old!

Also may one of the light ones is a Starlight Green Egger? Looks like some of mine...I thought maybe they were ISA browns, but that’s not part of the colored egg layer pack.

My babies are 11 weeks old!

I got a HH variety too and am trying to puzzle it all out. The crested one looks like the picture on their website of an Olive Egger.

I got the egg production variety pack and the colored egg layer variety pack from Hoover’s Hatchery. Figured out a lot of the breeds but a few I’m not sure of. Please help! Chicks are 8 weeks old.

    Welsummers?

I purchased several assortments from Hoover’s Hatchery. I’m wondering if these might be Welsummers. My other guess would be brown leghorn, but neither are breeds that are listed (I got the egg production pack and assorted colored egg layers). At what age would the ear color become apparent...

    Bigger than the rest!

I'll keep an eye on the chest feathers. Thanks!

    Bigger than the rest

It also has more feathery feet than the other!

    Bigger than the rest!

I ordered 25 chicks from Hoover's Hatchery. Among the different varieties I bought were an assortment of five Marans. Of those, it looks like I ended up with 2 French Wheaten Marans. One of them has been bold from the start, always rushing to inspect or peck at a hand placed in the brooder. This...

How often do you clean the brooder?

I have an empty coop outside (my last flock was finished off by bears). I want to brood them in the coop soon, but wondering if I need to put a brooder box inside the coop or not.

How often do you clean the brooder?

I have a 4' x 6' brooder with 22 two week old chicks in my dining room. How often should I clean the brooder (it's filled with pine shavings)? Does anyone have a nifty technique to do this? Scooping them up and putting them in an alternative bin causes a big uproar for them. Do you like to just...

    Glad to be here!

I have been around chickens for 20+ years. My mom kept chickens, I’ve worked on farms, I’ve taken care of flocks while their owners are away from town and I have been advising a school chicken program here in Southern California since 2016. This is my first year raising chicks on my own! I have...
