I found some neighbors with 3 hens who would like to add 2 more to their flock, so I'm good to go! they're being rehomed tonight. thanks to everyone for your replies and help.
My husband is losing his job here on Oahu before the end of the year and we've decided that we'll be better off relocating to the mainland for better opportunities and more social support. We've lined up a house to live in already but I cannot keep chickens there.

As an update, both chicks died in quarantine. I thought they were on the mend for a while, but then they took a turn for the worse. I did my best. Either the pox or some coccidiosis took them out.
I don't regret trying to help, and I've learned a lot from this experience playing vet. If there's...
Thank you! I ended up buying both Oxyrid and Enzum, which I believe is the same active ingredient as Valbazen? I used Oxyrid in the eyes of both chicks. It worked really quick! The worms immediately were paralyzed/dead. I pulled four out of one eye and a chunk of ten or so from another. (The...
Out of curiosity -- if my two 3-year-old laying hens ended up with pox and/or worms and I was asking for help would you have the same advice? Cull and start over? Are there any chicken illnesses you think can or should be treated instead of culling? Or are you more tolerant of treating...
As an update to this I found Manson's eye worms in the eyes of the smaller chick this morning. Judging from all their symptoms I think fowl pox + eye worms explains everything. I pulled out two worms by hand but I can't get the rest so I'm going on a quest for Oxyrid tonight.
The chicks are...
Oh sorry I didn't reply to your first question. I'm located in Hawaii.
There are no lesions inside the beak on the bigger one. I wiped their eyes with a wet paper towel and now they both can open both eyes and the goop is gone. The eyes are just watery/irritated from the scabs on the eyelid...
Yeah, the swollen eyes are discharging yellow fluid sometimes. I can't see inside the beak tho'; the lil dudes won't let me open their mouths and I don't wanna hurt em.
I found two abandoned feral chicks in my yard yesterday with growths all over their face. They were shivering like mad so I set up a brooder and got them inside. They each have one swollen eye and one open eye, and they're very very sleepy, way sleepier than most chicks. I mashed some boiled egg...
I killed a rooster for the first time using the broomstick method today. I was afraid of a slow death, so I accidentally pulled his entire head off.
He flapped. a LOT. I would have thought he was still alive if his head hadn't literally been severed from his body.
There's a reason we have that...
I agree with you, to be honest. I was being a bit of a coward before.
I'm not taking it on myself to cull every feral bird I can or anything, but after relocating a few greedy ferals stealing my babies' food, I've decided to start culling them instead. I killed a feral rooster in my yard this...
I culled a feral rooster today (not part of my flock) using the broomstick method and I wasn't even thinking about my flock when I did it. Two of my flock few over the fence (they were also in the trap I pulled him from, so they were scared from the trap and from his panicked squawking). I, um...
Hey, I know this was a long time ago but I just saw this!
I was told that the neighbor who was feeding him was moving out soon, and wouldn't be around to feed the rooster anymore.
So I caught the rooster and relocated him to a park about half a mile away from anyone's house. I gave him lots of...
Hello all! I'm asking this a few months before I really need an answer, but I want some help figuring out the best way to deal with my specific issue.
I currently have three feral rescue birds, two hens and a roo (who I will be getting rid of shortly--he's a pretty boy but I live in a suburban...
