Just wondering how often everyone cleans

I clean coops, runs and garden daily. If I am off work it's constant pick up all day 😜 I just spend all day with my girls 🤗😀 I have Silkies and Pekins so I think it's more important to keep their lovely foot feathers clean!

PLEASE HELP!! CHICKEN ATTACKED BY DOG

So terrible what I've just read.... I've seen a fox with its nose in one of my coups, I chased it off like a crazed person, I constantly worry now. So sorry about what happened to you and your girls.

best way to put a chick out of its miserey?

Yes I agree, I realise many more posts after this had posted/ happened, newbie error ☹️ But I still thought my reply was helpful if this person ever has a similar problem. She may have more chicks and might appreciate this positive advise for next time. I apologise if my post caused any upset...

4 days into raising chicks and lost 1 - ideas?

In my opinion, electrolyte solution is very similar to human drip in hospital, if unconscious or unable to eat/drink then electrolyte solution is going to keep you alive, better than just water. It contains essential salts and minerals. I use Agrivite. I know this has saved a couple of my chicks...

    Lethargic chicken!

Great article, hope it helps the poorly hen. Lots of massage helped when I once had a hen with impacted crop, she was very poorly initially. Not the same situation here but maybe electrolyte/glucose solution will help hydrate and give her strength. I'm no expert but she will need fluids via...

8 week old chick with odd leg

I have watched a few times, I may be wrong but I don't think it looks stressed or in pain, the funny noises are similar to my pekin and polish bantam, like funny sneezes, but not all do it. I don't think that's pain personally, I think he looks happy but you just need to keep an eye on things.

8 week old chick with odd leg

Panting can be stress or heat in my experience, I'm not an expert at all. Sounds change as well, as chicks age. I think as suggested you need to watch her, see her reactions, if she looks and sounds in pain, if she pants in cool weather... I had a lame hen a while back, she didn't look in pain...

best way to put a chick out of its miserey?

I have fed chicks glucose fluid with a syringe, it saved one from dying and it's now about 4 months old. Can also use a kids Calpol syringe. Or drop it of your finger onto beak very carefully and slowly, chick will take liquid successfully like that too. Recipes online for emergency fluids, or...

Can a chick with a deformed leg live a full life?

I have chicks which like to perch on a wooden bar almost at floor level, they have higher perches and a floor box with bedding, they use all of these in their house but sleep together in the box for now.... I agree with other replies, eating drinking, moving and pooping, all good☺️

8 week old chick with odd leg

If an animal eats drinks and gets about its obviously happy enough. My chickens are pets and in this case I'd keep. I'd only put down an animal in pain or if it couldn't eat or drink permanently. I was a veterinary nurse so always do all I can to keep mine alive! I've had impacted crops, egg...

Official BYC Poll: How Important Is It That You Get Eggs From Your Chickens?

Nice benefit for me, my Silkie, Polish and Pekins are pets🤗 I usually still have enough eggs to give away to family, 1 egg or 10 eggs I don't mind 😊
