my red broilers from ideal turned out to be pretty good egg layers. Not as good as my Rocks, but enough smallish round nearly white eggs to save them from the freezer.
I dropped one of my last hatch on day 19. It was fairly smashed up, but the membrane was intact. I did not have much hope for it, but on day 21 it hatched. Just give it a chance.
Guess I got lucky this year, bought eight barred rocks, 4 black sex links, and the last RIR from my feed store (gets them from Ideal) and the only roo was the RIR. I know I had at least 4 pullets, but for the rest I was 8:1. Just luck of the draw.
I set 6 eggs yesterday in the V2 incubator. I am using a repti-temp 500r from Zoo Med. Unbelievable how close this keeps my temps, a variation of 0.7 F. Hopefully this will be "the hatch" Otherwise I am going to order a brinsea mini eco advance!
Going to order some more eggs today, hopefully the Repti-Temp 500R will keep my temps consistant. With no eggs I am only seeing a 0.7 F variation in my home made incubator V2.
Got a bunch of early quitters, Suspected that cooler-incubator need some "tuning" and ended up breaking my thermostat. Incubater V2 will be using this instead of a water heater thermostat:

Better temp control should result. Also I am adding a...
I set a mixed dozen I got from FarmerJohn3285. I had no luck at all with the 2 dozen of my own eggs, no development at all! (2 separate times) My rooster is too good to his ladies to send him to freezer camp so hopefully it's a technique problem and not outright infertility.
