Not to derail the thread too much, but I get about a 1 out of 8 Bielefelder body type out of my F2s and F3s. Here is FUBAR (she was a very ugly chick that had a great glow-up) being used as a blanket by her smaller siblings.
Entry 2 - Bielefelder Siblings
Enrico Fermi is so hot he has to cool his junk on the water dish. Dora, his sister in the foreground, is not impressed. (I prodded him upright into behaving properly after taking the pic) :gig
Entry 2 - BARS
Group shot of the F2 Squad, part of my Bielefelder/Fayoumi project. They have two types of barring going on here, an auto-sexing barring, as well as an autosomal dominant lateral penciling (I've seen several arguments over whether this is called barring or pencilling!)
Entry 1 - RED
With flaming locks of auburn [plumes]
With ivory [eggs] and [legs] of [olive] green
Jolene was absolutely FIERCE broody, she even scalped a few cockerels that stuck their beaks in the wrong place. She's not in the best condition in this pic because of being a MOM, but I love her...
Another update: his half-brother returned, and also has the split comb!
I named him Candy Corn. Aside from being an automatic DQ for breeds with SOPs, are there any health drawbacks to split combs for long-term breeding projects? Like, would this eventually result in two-headed chicks? 🫠😂 I...
ABSOLUTELY! She's a nutbar. Plucked her ENTIRE midriff bare when she was broody. Not just a belly patch, her sides and BACK too! I like sharing this pic of as a 'not an entry' because it's not moulting, but she definitely looks great in a 2-piece. She did great rearing those chicks.
Entry 1:
Name: Jolene
Breed: Fayoumi/Starlight Green Egger mix
This is what she gets for taking Dolly's man! More pics to come in the next day or so.
Ah, I waited too late to edit! Here are more pics of Jolene being scruffy. She is CRANKY!
Watch out, Jazz Hands, she's gonna beat you up! 😂
@casportpony -- will there be admin review of the entries to see if they are APA? I know some color varieties aren't recognized, and I don't want to see some of the pretty ladies be dq'd for being in the wronge category
Oh! I realize that something I did recently qualifies!
Here is an illustration of a male and female Bielefelder chicks, showing their auto-sexing colors. The little girl's face is overworked, but I'm pleased with it as a first effort after YEARS.
Medium: Prismacolor pencils on paper
Size: ~ 6"x 6"
Newcastle and coccidia! I have been corresponding with a retired professor from the ISU lab that originally imported the flock. She confirmed that the hatchery with the most direct lineage to those birds is McMurray.
