Exactly! They're so muscular since they free range. But I let them sit for weeks in the freezer and I use a crackpot. Still just stringy and tough. I cant say its the chicken bresd because even then, something is wrong.
I posted before about a bad experience i had. Today, my culling was perfect. However, I clean the way I've seen in ever video. I ice bath, defeather, and gut. I let it rest. Then I cook it and get rubber meat. Like, ever single chicken has been close to inedible. What am I doing wrong? I've...
My father in laws chickens have had this issue for a long time. He has given them calcium via oyster shells and egg shells. But they aren't getting better. He tried antibiotics. I never asked until now because I just became a chicken mama and he wants to give me some chickens and I'm worried...
Think I'm gonna try loppers. I didn't try decapitation because I had a really bad experience and vein method went well twice. Then went wrong too. I think loppers will be easier than locating vertebrae or vein
Wow thank you so much. That happened today. It ran away after I'd decapitated it half-way. It made me cry for hours. And I did do this to stop buying from these horrible companies and give my food a better life. My husband along with this community has convinced me to continue. I will study up...
Thank you.. I really would like to decapitate but I've had the worst time trying to cut the head off after they're dead so I need a better knife. My husband wants me to try an electric knife but I've never heard of anyone doing that so I need to research that. I cant use a hatchet to save me life.
My concern is that I want it to bleed and decapitating has not worked well for me. I cant seem to cut through the neck once they're dead so I don't try while they're alive. Today, out of desperation, I tried. It did not go well. My knife was sharp but wouldn't cut through. Again, awful
Today was my third time culling. I didn't do anything different. But this time went terribly wrong. One chicken got out of the killing cone after I had halfway cut its head off and it ran back to the coop. It was traumatizing to watch, to be the cause of, and that poor chicken suffered. It...
4 week old Austrolorp. Growing at normal rate. Acting energetic and normal. Eating and drinking fine.
With that said, she's had diarrhea for two weeks almost. I've treated with corid. Didnt help at all. Any other suggestions?
The red rangers broilers i got are supposed to be killed at 16 weeks. If I slaughter early, like8 weeks, will they be cornish hen sized? Or is this a bad idea?
This may sound weird but I don't wanna kill them all at once at 16 weeks. I wanna do 1 or 2 a week. And I wanna start while they're...
