    Hatching help needed

He's doing great! I improvised a mama heating pad cave since my heat plate is huge for just one chick.

He's out! Is this white gooey bit on his abdomen ok?? Thank you! Your pictures are super helpful. When it was bleeding earlier it looked like your second picture.

Ok we just got home. I tried peeling a bit and it bled a little. It's not dark red though.

    Hatching help needed

That part is where the air sac was. That's the piece of shell I removed. I assumed that was normal to have that under that part. The rest of the shell that piece of membrane seems connected to still. She's been sitting at least 3 weeks. I thought they'd hatch before the fair. But I didn't...

    Hatching help needed

I have it on a heating pad with some wash clothes on top. It's about 100* but keeps fluctuating up, then I move things around so it doesn't get too hot.

    Hatching help needed

I don't have an incubator so I'll try to find our old humidifier. Is this still looking not ready? I removed a tiny bit more shell to check the veins. We have to leave for the fair again and will be gone for a bit😬.

    Hatching help needed

Yes he's moving and chirping. Seems to be breathing kind of heavy. It's been about 2 hours since I opened the egg and he hasn't moved the membrane or shell at all. He was internally pipped for 2 days before I opened it. There may be a bit less blood in the veins than earlier. The membrane was...

    Hatching help needed

My son is showing chickens at the fair this week. One hen from his breeding pen has been sitting on eggs. We candled them Tuesday before we brought her and one egg was pipped internally. We brought her nest and got her settled but when we came back in the morning she was off her nest. We...

    Muscovy egg hatching help!

He's doing great! His naval is all closed and he's walking around and eating and drinking. We just reunited him with his family and it's all going well. He's the little one hanging out under mama Oreo. I'll check on him a bit to be sure he's doing OK. Thank you so much for your help!!

    Muscovy egg hatching help!

He seems pretty good. I put the heat plate in a bigger box. He still won't stand up and walk but he kind of slithered away from me and back under the heat plate when I took him out to check on him. I'm assuming he'll need to be walking better before I put him with the others as they're walking...

    Muscovy egg hatching help!

Yes I was going to put him back with the others once he's up and moving. He's still laying around and sleeping a lot. I improvised a mama heating pad cave. I do have a heat plate but it's large and seems way too big for one little guy but it may be safer if he's going to be inside for very long.

The baby hatched! Is this brown lump normal?

    Muscovy egg hatching help!

Thank you! Yes I'll try to lower it. Kinda tricky with a heating pad. It is yawning so that's good to know that's what that means. I used olive oil to moisten it earlier. I'll keep it moist like you said. I have no idea how long it was pipped because we just left her be. I'm so glad I...

    Muscovy egg hatching help!

My muscovy hen hatched 11 ducklings yesterday. This morning she had left the nest with them and left this egg behind. It had pipped and its beak was moving. I'm warming it up with a heating pad and I moistened the membrane and chipped back the shell. It started to look a bit pink so I...

Raising meat chicks in a tractor?

It's 50 chicks. The closed in brooder box is a good idea. That may be the way I have to go. Hopefully the barn gets here on time and I don't have to worry about it. Thank you!

Raising meat chicks in a tractor?

I was going to build the hoop coop like I've read on here with cattle panels covered in hardware cloth. I was thinking of using the tarps to just keep the wind off of them. I was going to have their heat source inside the hoop coop. Other than canceling my order I'm not sure what else to do if...
