I’m experimenting with garlic at the moment to keep ticks away (there’s a lot) from my chicken enclosure. Garlic granules I’m using so letting me chooks have some too. Also I’ve heard that pine martens and foxes don’t like the strong smell either.
Although I’m using other deterrents as well...
No it’s not my property, someone has let me use their land so I could give the boys a home. They all have coops that I lock them in at night and all coops are surrounded by the electric poultry netting. I just didn’t know if there was something else I could do. Thankyou for your reply 🙂
Hi there,
I have rescued cockerels and turkeys and have them in little groups in a field in my village near woods. I have them in two enclosed areas with electric poultry netting and lock them up at dusk. I also have the predator eyes, sonar pest machines around and use scoot and marten spray...
Thankyou for your reply. I just planned to have them in an area with electric fencing so was hoping they wouldn’t touch it or go over. 🙈 so there would be no ledges as such.
good info on the wing clipping. Thanks for the luck I may need it 😂🙏😊
Hi there, first time turkey owner! I have 3 gorgeous turkeys , 2 hens and 1 Tom. Large breasted ones (these are pardoned turkeys and my babies 😊) I have them in their baby enclosure at the moment (now with roost bars inside not shown in picture) but would love to let them out to roam especially...
That is absolutely fantastic! Thankyou so so much with your help. Honestly you have no idea how great that is.

Hi there, I am completely new to electric fencing. I have the electric poultry netting, was told I needed an energiser, 12v battery and solar panel charger for battery so have got these to what I could afford, I’m not entirely sure how to attach the solar panel to my battery - it does come with...
Yes deer ticks 🙈 happier knowing that chickens and turkeys eat ticks and that it’s a field of snacks 😂 I just envisioned going up to take them brekkie and the birds are covered head to toe in ticks which would be just awful. Thankyou royalchick
Thankyou for your reply Lacy duckwing 🙏
My intention wasn’t to control tick numbers, it was just to rescue some roosters and pardon a few turkeys 🙂 just the land I have is full of ticks 😢 opossums would be great 😜 but I think I’ll maybe look into guinea fowl. Just didn’t want the birds getting...
That’s super sad. I’m putting my cockerels (some I rescued ) in a field near to my house and strimmer the area to make the grass short and they have coop, fence, electric fence, solar deterrents- sound, smell and visual 😂 so they don’t get eaten but I didn’t seem to think that there would be so...
So I’ve very kindly been given some land so that I can keep my roosters on as well as turkeys- separately obviously incase of blackhead. my question is the field is absolutely crawling with tick nymphs. We have recently cut the grass so it’s way shorter and got all fences etc up. I’ve spread de...
