Oh darn it :( sorry yours is doing thay. Our sweet girl passed away. We had a necropsy done and they said probably mareks. Although I had tested for mareks and it was negative so I’m actually wondering if it was avian leukosis instead. We have had quite a few weird losses this last year...
Yes a little younger then that actually, she was hatched in may of last year. That being said it is possible she has laid and I am just not aware she has. We have a few silkies as well and I am guessing the size of her egg probably would be similar to theirs. And ironically they laid all winter...
I don’t think it’s egg?? Unless it was and now has turned into a huge infection. I think the photos are showing it brighter then it is. It’s super hard like a scab and more a pale yellow color. Tonight I soaked her because her entire vent was covered fully. I don’t even know how she’s getting...
1. Polish, standard size but she’s always been smaller. 11 months.
2) she can’t seem to poop well. Poop is getting stuck to her feathers. Yellow crusty hard area that feels like it extends into her vent some.
3) about a week
4) no
5) no bleeding but her vent looks super sore
7) 20% feed...
They have not said anything about steroids. The vet kinda just said oh it’s mareks before having tests done and said to euthanize. It’s only been since December she hasn’t been able to walk so sort of a long time but not a year. I’m guessing it’s probably not reversible.
No swelling, they are not super cold but not super warm. She does grab my fingers sometimes with her toes. I think that’s probably the direction we are heading 😩 just trying to see if we have any other options before we do 😞 it’s always the favorite dang it.
Yes it was the RAL test. How accurate are those? I’m honestly shocked. I was so sure that’s what was going on and we pretty much had told the kids we were likely putting her down this week. Her quality of life is really where I struggle. It’s not fair for her. It’s been a slower process to put...
I could really use some advice as I am unsure what to do next. Long story short, we have a silkie almost a year old that started limping around October. By the end of December she could not use either leg and walk at all. She's been inside since and eating and drinking great, normal poop, very...
Ours is the same. Very bright eyed and aware but both legs not working. One can grasp but she cannot stand at all. And now she’s doing a weird head shake thing. I may submit bloodwork this week to check for mareks but I feel like the end may need to be close for her. I feel so bad she can’t do...
She’s still down :( ugh. I don’t know what to do. I’m starting an e vitamin tonight to see if that makes a difference at all. Then I may take to a vet if there is no improvement soon.
Update this morning!!! I’m trying to not get too excited but this morning she has started to very very weakly grip my finger with her foot that has been the issue. It is small movement but it’s movement. She hasn’t been able to do anything with that foot at all since she stopped walking. She’s...
I’m feeling I may vaccinate further chicks from here on out. This is our first batch we’ve ever had and it’s been a lot of issues this year with a few and super easy with others. Hoping it’s vitamin related. I’ll give her some time. She’s very hungry so that’s good at least.
Can
Can mareks come on super gradually? For some reason I thought it was sudden and they died fairly quick? We’ve had a few weird things this last year where I’ve suspected it a few times but I had one chicken who wasn’t walking at all come back after a vitamin dose for a few weeks. And the...
She’s stayed outside in her coop until last night. Temps were so low and I needed to make sure she ate and drank well I brought her inside. I will try the sling! I’ve been holding her upright so she can eat. I may take her out in her crate today and let her sit inside with them. They all seem to...
