Hi everyone.
I have a chickenguard Extreme door and have been burning through batteries now that it’s cold out. We are looking at trying to set up solar for it as changing batteries is a pain. Does anyone have an experience and recommendations on equipment to do this?
Thanks!
Is this a quality automatic door?
Is it worth getting the locking feature?
Does it perform in -40 temps?
And does anyone have any couple codes?
Cheers!
Update for any who is interested.
7/8 hatched. The last one never hatched. I have 2 babies earth side from the last 4 late eggs. One egg didn't develop. And sadly, the mom that was sitting left them and another hen was sitting on them. Two hatched and got booted out of the box, 1 died and I was...
Moved them to her and the goofy bird left to go sit on the golf balls I have in there..twice 🤦♀️. Put them back with original momma hen. But if she bails on them, I guess I need to just let them go.
7/8 eggs hatched. Guessing the last one is a no go. Have 4 more that she's still sitting on that were at a different stage than the 8, which I think is because she wasn't sitting on them fully before I moved her.
Should I sneak those under a different hen that is broody?
Went in the dark coop, but still not ideal candling set up. The shells are quite dark as well. I did candle one of the other eggs that I thought was going to be a dud because it was cool when I originally found her stash, and it has veins and a spot (couldn't get a picture because I didn't want...
Hi all.
What day do you think this is? I was thinking we were in day 10 based on when I found her stash, but now I'm not so sure.
Not ideal pictures or technique, sorry. Didn't want to disturb mama too much and she's in a tricky spot.
Attempted to candle a couple of them...I can't see vessels but the shell is fairly dark. Sorry these aren't ideal pictures. I was trying the balance egg and phone and not disturb her too much (and it's still kind of light outside). Do these fit with a day 10 timeline?
Okay, phew. I can manage with 6 if that works lol. She is a hen that is usually around my rooster often, so I'm assuming he breeds her frequently. I originally had 2 roosters but one was awful to the hens and destroying feathers like crazy, so he had to go. My current rooster is a very nice guy...
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. There were about 4 that felt cooler than the rest when I moved them, so I marked them differently. I'm assuming they will either be behind or not viable. She's been consistently sitting and I've only seen her off the nest about once a day.
Hi, all.
So, I did not plan to have any chicks this year due to HPAI and some space constraints. But my Brahma hen, Greta, decided differently and apparently had been stashing eggs for a while. I noticed her missing last Sunday (May 29th) and found her tucked away under the tarp on my straw...
Hi! What did you end up treating with?
Just did a fecal on my girls (reason for getting it done was some of them have messy bums). And they found similar amounts that you did. He said nothing to be alarmed about if there were no symptoms.
Hens range in ages from 1 year to 2 years.
Did a fecal float at the clinic today and they saw coccidia (but nothing alarming). I was honestly expecting to find round worms or something of that nature. But it would make sense that we have some. I just did a full clean out and scraped the floor...
Hi, friends.
Some of my fluffy butts are poopy butts, so I took a sample in to the vet today for a fecal exam. They found some coccidia (not a crazy amount). So I picked up some medicated feed today - thinking it would treated with amprolium but it's actually monensin. Can I use this an adult...
Yep, this all makes a lot of sense. Although of course, what I wanted to hear was, oh you have tons of room, get more! Bahahah. But I'm not one to shy away from a reality check. I will just keep everyone as is for now and see what this spring and summer brings as far as health goes. I never...
Usually I just have to indicate that they are "free" chickens and he doesn't care 😂. But he has asked me a few times, "you're done now, right?". 😆 And he's usually pretty good until I ask him to fix or build me something new for the chickens. Thankfully when my dad comes to visit, he usually...
