I like that it comes with predator deterrents already in place. It looks easy to move from place to place so the chickens can eat army worms when they invade the yard!
My Welsh harlequins don't scare off the Canadian geese when they travel through this area. I end up with many in my pond and pasture. I don't mind, but they are noisy! People are used to seeing our horses, cows, and ducks..... but they slow down to look at the visiting Canadian geese.
that's funny. I also just got nacked neck chicks at tractor supply.
I have a very small incubator. it doesn't have a temperature setting. You just add water. I also have a very fine mister that I spritz them.
I'm in East Texas and the air is so humid, I can't imagine adding too much more...
I would. I'd also candle the eggs to see if one is bad.
I've not heard of this in ducks, but supposedly chickens can smell the sulfur from a bad egg and will abandon it.
My Welsh harlequins must not have a good sniffer. They will honestly sit on rocks if we put a clutch in their house.
I had to do that with a Welsh harlequin and just posted a question after some bad outcomes. I had more quitters than I've ever had in years past. but, in years past, I only had to use the incubator for eggs that another duck laid in the nest while broody was out to pee.... or whatever mama...
I'm new to hatching ducks (welsh harlequin) with an incubator. I let the wrong duck get broody and she's not the best broody duck. I took the eggs from her b/c she was leaving too long and she crushed one (accidentally, I'm sure). She also got mean. None of my other ducks have bitten me when...
I just asked the question about when to assist. I am new to using an incubator and had a sad outcome. I want to see if I could have prevented this. Reading this post is good for my soul thank you
I have red wigglers (manure worms) that I used to compost things in my garage. My ducks LOVE the worms. They recognize the worm bin when I bring it outside to clear out the worm castings for my garden. My worms have never shown any issues from it. when the ducks were babies, I got minnows...
I'm not sure about goose eggs.... I have ducks. Im' in the same situation with a duck egg that is narrow. I'm giving it a few days, but mine doesn't appear to be developing.
On another note, I have the exact same granite countertops.
my girls feet have changed as they have aged. they stared out orange.. thenw ere so specked with black that they almost looked greenish... then went to black. (except one holdout.)
I had a goose... it was not the mothering type.
I'm frugal. I take a gallon jug and cut an opening at their height. That way they can put their head thru.. hopefully not make too much of a mess. I also put a few larger rocks in there to deter the ducklings from swimming in it.
I put that...
