Injured comb bleeding - to clean or not to clean??

Hi all! I have five black autralorps, they are about 2 years old. One of them has started being broody, but she hasn't pecked at me (only made that classic noise). Today I went out to bring her outside and saw blood on the walls of one nesting box. After checking them all, one hen (not the...

    Very lethargic this morning, help?

I left for an appointment, got the stuff to try for the crop, and by the time I got back home (maybe 2.5 hours) she was dead. All my other chickens seem fine, so should I be concerned at all about anything or? They’re all the same age, will be one year in July.

    Very lethargic this morning, help?

Hi all, This morning I found one of my hens laying the their run area and she didn't get up to come over and get treats. She seemed a bit out of it, so I went in. All the chickens ran by her and she still didn't move. I picked her up, and she felt very limp in a tired way as if she didn't care...

To refrigerate or not after collection?

This is exactly what I was looking for but didn't know it! I knew there had to be something to go by that was more "official." I'm in MA, and easily found this: SAFE EGG HANDLING FOR BACKYARD EGG PRODUCERS My chicks are only 5 days old, but feeling much better every day about things!

    Too small for temporary coop?

Perfect! At least I’ll be able to get something safe and secure for them while I finish the final coop/run. Ok I feel much better now, the panic had started to set in real quick! Love this site so much!!

    Too small for temporary coop?

Oh dear… I do have lots of raccoons that show up in groups and have attacked my compost bin so I can only imagine what they’d do to the coop. It’s already put together but I maybe I can figure something else to make out of the pieces. Oh well :-/ thank you!

    Too small for temporary coop?

Hello everyone! So… had my first chicks for three days now and have essentially decided to rethink almost every coop/run decision I made even though I’ve been doing research for a year now! The coop - I wanted to build one (like in all the awesome posts on here) but thought maybe I’ll start...

    First Chicks - Brooder Setup

Thank you all! I put in a little shallow dish of plain water and some of them are drinking that too! I’ll try elevating the food and water in a few days. I have lots of hardwire cloth so I’ll get a piece for the top soon so they can’t escape. :) Michelle

    First Chicks - Brooder Setup

Hello! I got my first chicks today. I've never had chickens before, so this is a first in all aspects for me. They arrived via USPS, and I think they arrived well. I've done lots of research, but every time I read something I learn something new. So here is my setup, and I was looking for...

    Coop inside backyard fence?

Good to know thanks! I had a group of raccoons (caught on video!) attacking my compost bin every night until I built a fortress around it... so I know I’ll need to have a fortress of a chicken coop and run. They’re so relentless.
