Wondering if this sounds like the symptoms of a blind duckling (call duck).
and if anyone has experience successfully raising blind poultry.
To start, the duckling (Forest, we will assume a boy for this thread) was malpositioned and found out was in a cool section of my incubator so was 3 days...
My very first call duck hatch is complete. 7 out of 9 developed eggs hatched (2 malpositioned were not caught in time).
wanted to share the experience of my last two ducks to hatch in case anyone else has the same thing happen.
both were incubated at a cooler temp with extra humidity, I did not...

both were incubated at a cooler temp with extra humidity, I did not realize this until too late (use multiple thermometers people). So when...
Old thread, but I think duck-in-a-cup might have saved two of our late Hatcher’s (due to cold incubation). They were both flipping on their sides and one was tucking it’s head back under its wing with legs straight out the back.
Cups with ducks had to go into the brooder, as the incubator lid...
Ah I might need to start chipping away on this one then. Do you leave the outer thick membrane and just take the shell away? Or take shell and thick white membrane off?
That one unfortunately didn’t make it. Guessing it needed to pip 24 hours before.
had another malpositioned (3 out of 9 eggs, it’s my first time incubating and my incubator is crappy so maybe that is why) and it is doing well. This one actually externally pipped on its own so probably saved...
So one of the two finals is malpositioned (3 out of 9 eggs malpositioned 🤦♀️ hopefully I can get at least one to survive it) but he actually pipped out the bottom so hopefully for a survival on that one. The other looks to be normally pipped. I’m thinking the crinkling is actually just extra...

When I hold the last two eggs to my ear I hear crinkling noises. A rythmic tic everyonce and a while but more sounds like they’re moving industrial Saran Wrap around inside. Could this mean they’re shrink wrapped? Incubator has been opened quite a lot to deal with the 4 that have...
Unfortunately it didn’t make it, guessing it was trying to pip for too long without success. Oh well, the best we can do is try! 4 healthy babies in the brooder so far
Hi everyone!
I successfully opened an air hole for a malpositioned call duck. Feeling pretty happy that I was able to catch the issue (already had one die due to malpositioned in this batch).
how do I keep the now-open air cell moist so that the yolk sack doesn’t dry out? The yolk sack is...
I have been watching an egg for some time, that it’s partner egg (incubated in same row, therefore same temperature) has been internally pipped for about 24 hours. I decided to open up the un-pipped egg to discover that there was no bill present and I could see the yolk sack (should be at the...
Glad I set my alarm for 4 am! Assisted just slightly (chipped away extra shell but not membrane) as the zip was going well but their wing was stuck in the safety hole (large hole created as per conversation with a successful call duck breeder).
Duck update: all 8 remaining are still alive!
2 (far left) ducks have fully internally pipped and are peepingand yawning (see video).
2 have started internal pipping but bills aren’t wiggling around in the air sack yet (can hear clicking but no peeping)
2 are pushing up on the membrane but...
From a breeder close by, drove to get the eggs so not shipped. She has never had success hatching her eggs but I don’t think she’s tried that hard. My humidity is cranked so safety hole shouldn’t hurt anything tonight. Already sucks that one has died due to mis-pipping so don’t want to risk any...
