    Obese free range chickens

I’ll see what I can find. The carb/protein ratio makes sense.

    Obese free range chickens

Ive searched existing posts but couldn't find an answer. I have a mixed bag of chickens over here. I have a healthy farmyard mix with genes mixed over years and years and I think some genetic challenges (we inherited them with the farm). I have introduced a new bloodline and I'm managing the...

Should I make a safety hole yet?

How did it go? I’m curious as I have Orpingtons that I made holes for after reading this and miraculously hatched! The smallest of holes though. I used the tip of a clutch pencil and worked like a charm. So happy.

Incubator temperature affect the sex ratio?

Im not sure anymore. I just incubated at the recommended 37.5C and only had one cockerel so now I'm thinking its got more to do with my head than anything else. Im going to carry on experimenting

Incubator temperature affect the sex ratio?

I was searching the net about this as I thought I stumbled upon something unique but it seems I'm late to the party. I have two incubators. I have one that I add eggs to on a weekly basis and I have another that I use for lockdown. My lockdown Incubator seems to have lost its calibration and was...

What eats heads off of ducks and Chickens

I have 10 Muscovy Ducks that live fairly free down by a lake that I have on my property. Nothing ever happens to them and I don't snip their wing feathers (so that they can get away if they need to). Yesterday, I identified two to be slaughtered today for our xmas dinner. Yesterday I placed them...

Anyway thank you all. Silky in there somewhere. She is one of my favourites regardless. Based on some of the comments, do I check out the eye?

    Hairy Hen

I have a good mix of egg laying farmyard mix chickens and some are gorgeous. This one is strange though. She is the sweetest thing but she has hair instead of feathers. What is her background? They are all healthy and her family members are all feathered.

Who has spyware in their coops!?

hahaha sounds like you have a bit of a circus over there! this will help. I also noticed that my Orpingtons are kicked off the roost bars overnight by Henrietta (the rooster's favourite) so I will need to have a word about that...🍽️...

Who has spyware in their coops!?

I use Ring (ring.com). its actually how I first noticed that they have red mites...I watched them at night last month and noticed the restless sleep everyone always refers to but I never see.

Who has spyware in their coops!?

It’s getting really cold at the moment so the chickens are now in their winter coop (gets really hot in summer here and they needed something for summer too). I’ve also got 5 pullets that hasn’t laid yet but then I wondered how would I monitor them without disturbing them? I bought and installed...

Is this something to be worried about?

Yes that’s what I mean. I was just worried it’s a hernia or something. Thank you for putting my mind at ease.

Is this something to be worried about?

I have a Muscovy duck about 20 months old. She had her first season this year and lay two clutches. She has had this “loose skin” ever since. The other girls don’t have this. What is it and should I do something about it? She doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. (She is also malting.

    First time Orpington owner here...

God you’re funny. No so the Orpington that you weren’t sure about was sold to me as a lavender Orpington but I will try and get a better picture. I’m also not sure about that one to be fair as there is only a few discoloured or darker feathers. I will let y’all know as soon as eggs are...

    First time Orpington owner here...

Thank you all for your replies. I will keep you updated when eggs start to be produced. I love my girls...more to come also. I was just stumped as I have a range of farm yard mixes that are so easy to sex. in most cases I can tell after 5-10 weeks. Orpingtons are sneaky...and amazing.
