If they're flock raised (whith 1+ adult roos), then no. They don't usually start crowing until their hormones kick in. Sometimes not even then. The mature guys crow and the junior idiots in training watch and learn good boy behavior. There will still be not so good behavior but the crowing...
Just got back from closing the coop. Discovered Hawthorne and Tundra going at it. Prior to this spat, Hawthorne has been bottom of the heap amongst the boys. During the spat (they rolled in the mud from the evening hose I shut off just before finding it going on), combs and wattles got bloodied...
I've got a supply of empty pickle jars, lunch meat containers, margarine tubs that get sent along for the shells to come back in. ...and occasionally a neighbor brings me a stack of cartons.
I think you've got it with Hawthorne. The leakage means that 1 of his parents is gold/red and 1 is silver. I saw blue breasted red roosters and Silver's sister was still there, which could produce, but some of the other ladies could too...like Thing's daughters...

Hawthorne is NOT. Near as I can tell, he came out of one of the in-law eggs from the genetics the niece added....so I have NO idea what his "breed" is called. Color wise, he's blue breasted silver with a rose comb and clean legs. I don't even know what color egg he hatched out of and I was...
From his other side, his mane is that palomino blonde. I hadn't seen one with both colors before. He's got a blood bay in with him (sorrel red, long black stockings). The bay is taller, but more slender. My initial thought was a horse-pony cross due to how stocky he is. Small draft type makes...
