So about a week ago I noticed two of my chickens were completely bare below the vent. I got concerned when it looked a little red and swollen, but I thought maybe that's just how it is below the feathers. Then a couple more birds started losing their feathers back there too. One of the...
Thank you. So sad finding a girl like that. She didn't even make it to one year. You put so much effort into them and then that happens. It could have been worse though. At least we still have 7 ladies left.
I ask because when a ball has accidentally rolled into there mobile coop they all fly up in the air. I'm just going to assume that she choked for now, since it happened some time after I gave them the carrots. I knew I should have shredded them or just gave them the whole carrot to peck at.
I looked down her mouth but couldn't see anything. Is it common for chickens to have heart attacks from being scared? I'm sure I'll never find out what happened to her, but I'll keep a close eye on the other. I check for mold in their feed, but it looked clean.
They all appear to be very healthy. I haven't checked yet for mites or anything, but I didn't see any signs of bad health. I'm hoping it was just a freak accident.
So I went out this evening and saw an egg sitting on the ground in our mobile coop which was very unusual( nesting boxes are up above in the housing are). I went inside to grab the egg and right away saw one of chickens laying dead. It was so out of the blue. I had given them cut up carrots...
Yes, I had purchased 4 plymouth rock and I was confused why this one was so light colored. Well great, two roosters lol. Now that i think about it, these two were always fighting eachother. Turns out lady grey is a Mr. Hahaha. Well, looks like I'll be trying to give two roosters away. I just...
Was suppose be 10 hens I got from our local Wilco store, but im questioning this one. He or whe is the largest of them all and grew faster. It sucks, because I cant keep a rooster here, unless I keep him seperate, which I dont want to do. Thet are roughly all around 3 months old. Give or take lol
Thank you! I'll just clean it and keep an eye on it. When it was scabbed the toe was getting swollen. I dont know of it was infected or juat swollen from having a big gash.
So I unfortunately found out the hard way that it was actually a scab from a bad cut. I actually took some of the scab off and now she has an open wound. I put her back with her girls for the night, but at sunrise i wanted to separate her to clean out her cut. Is that the best thing i should do...
It looks like sonething is wraped around and i tried using tweezers to pulls a part of the black part off, but she freeked out. I did soak it a lot and it moved a little bit. Should i just soak her foot longer?
So i just finished building our chickens mobile A frame coup and i was checking on them and i saw one of my girls standing on one leg and saw her toe had something black on it. I looked further and noticed something black was actually wrapped around. I worry she either cut herself from me not...
