So in July my lovely ISA brown Crookbeak went broody, i gave her eggs, 25 days later, nothing.
I bought 4, 4 day old chicks, she loved them, has cared for them since introduction diligently and protected them from EVERYTHING. Been a better mom than my bantam cochins.
Problem is, now theyre 3.5...
I just opened the eggs and unfortunately most had died very close to hatching. Two were unfertilized.
Will have to be more adamant that she broods in an enclosed area next time so she wont mix up nests😔
My broody ISA brown has until now been a diligent momma until today, eggs are scheduled for the 13th. I found her in the wrong nest and the eggs had already gotten cold, do i have any hope for any of them to hatch??? Eggs are ISA browns and Bantam Cochins. I havent candled anything, my priority...
She was around the middle, not a bully, not a leader, not a wimp. Pretty much just existed.
Had it been my bully i wouldve torn her off the nest the first day.
I have a seperate pen prepared for her in my feed room, ill be moving her there in the dark tonight. Ive got barn cats so i need to...
She has fertile eggs and i plan on letting her hatch them out, im generally just curious of how they do in terms of motherhood and if they have strong instincts towards their offspring.
My cochins, contrary to popular belief, probably should have had CPS called on them with their clutches.
The impossible happened, my 1.5 yr old ISA Brown has gone broody, all bald belly, pissed off and has consistently stayed in her nest for 3 days, defending it vigorously from the others.
Has anyone had luck with letting your ISAs brood? How are they as mothers once the chicks are here? Shes not...
Hello!
I am a young chicken farmer situated in Denmark, i have just under 20 chickens in a variety of breeds, although mostly ISA brown crosses and bantam cochins.
I will mostly be asking about injuries or chick knowledge and i look forward to learning!
