She’s as cute as a button, that’s for sure! Very timid right now, but she will come around

    ID for Stray Chicken

Hi all! My husband and I are purchasing a house that is vacant. The owner left behind whatever chickens they couldn’t catch. Today we were both lucky and unlucky to find this pretty girl tangled in fishing line and stuck in a bush! She’s quarantined from the rest of our flock right now, but we’d...

    Sick chicken

I would start by isolating her from your other birds in case it’s contagious. Does she have diarrhea? Are her poos bloody? What is her body language/behavior like?

    Bloody diarrhea, possibly coccidiosis

I would do the same thing by treating for cocci. I would probably keep the roo separated until he feels back to his usual self. That way he can catch up on his rest and if it isn’t cocci, you have isolated him until you know for sure! I always isolate a chicken not feeling well so I can keep a...

Pullet lethargic and passing solid grassy poop?

Resolution: After she passed the large grassy manure, I continued to provide her with a few drops of nutri-drench by syringe (very small drops being careful to let her swallow and not aspirate) every 4 or so hours as well as a single dose of canola oil by syringe (est. 1/2-1 teaspoon of oil). As...

Pullet lethargic and passing solid grassy poop?

Nonsense! Your input is valued and my first thought was that she obviously needs more grit as well! But I have great news! The molasses and oil seemed to do the trick and she is much less lethargic today, eating her food, and drinking! Fingers crossed she will be ok!

Pullet lethargic and passing solid grassy poop?

She has free access to grit…but I hardly ever see her picking at it. Opposed to my big girls who stop by every morning and choose a few bits and pieces each day. Is there a way to encourage her to eat more grit?

    Hello Friends!

Hi all! I finally just formally joined BYC. I have had chickens for roughly 5 years and these forums have been a constant help when I had questions or concerns! Anyway, I have a little mixed flock (Olive egger roo, 7 hens- 2 EEs, 2 Wyandotte’s, a cuckoo maran, an olive egger and a porcelain...

Pullet lethargic and passing solid grassy poop?

Hi friends, I have a 12 week old EE pullet who became lethargic yesterday and continued the lethargy today as well as seeming very uncoordinated. She has been eating and drinking periodically on her own but she has lost all of her weight. She is pooping very thin, watery, white poop. I’ve...
