I'm not sure why my first sentence was cut off but I ordered these 4 yrs ago. Thanks for the invite. Also these are all pullets around 9-10 months old and I'm getting 5 eggs per hen a/wk right now with the below freezing temps so I'm very pleased
Thanks. I ordered these chick
s 4 years ago and have been hatching for egg color since. I've raised BCM for years (wade jean, little peddler) but have had darker eggs with these black tailed Red Marans. And yes you're correct about it only being recognized in Europe
Yes I'll take some pictures of them tomorrow. They are similar to the color of those island reds but with feathered in legs. The hens are a little lighter red
I've been working with this breed for 3 yrs now and have been really pleased with them. Good layers of extremely dark eggs and good temperament . here's a picture of eggs from today. The one green egg is from a f6 olive egger
I just got back into peafowl a year ago. My dad had them for years and i built my house 50 yds from the barn in 2009. Within 6 months one male was pecking and spurring my french patio door seeing his reflection, but the final straw for the wife was when he scratched up the side of her new jeep...
If none of the eggs left have pipped then i would pull them out and candle them. At least you will know if any are living. Ive never had any hatch after day 23
Im in East Tennessee, right on the North Carolina line in the mountains. Its been unusually warm the past month or so. When we had peahens years ago they normally wouldn't lay until may.
I was gathering my chicken eggs and I have 3 peafowl free ranging, and noticed 3 eggs in an old chicken nest in the loft of my barn, 2 hrs later there was 4. Can't decide whether to leave them and let the hen set or to grab them and stick them in the incubator. Hopefully she'll lay several more
I have the larger turner for my nurture right 360 tbat only holds 12 eggs and I had pretty good success hatching with it last year. On shipped eggs I was able to hatch 8 out of 12
I have several bloodlines of Black copper marans (Bev Davis, Wade Jean and Lil Peddler) and they all lay beautiful eggs but the one BTRM hen lays a consistently darker egg than any of them
aChixlady im in east Tennessee and unfortunately I only have a couple of the Black tailed red marans hens but im in the process of hatching several batches of their eggs. I would be happy to send you some of the eggs if you have a incubator
With the nuture right 360 just take the turner out on day 18, open the vent fully and fill both ports with water and keep them full. Set back and let them do their thing unless something out of the ordinary pops up. Good luck
Thanks hope everything goes well with your hatch, I also have some hatching on the 18th. I think the Black tailed red marans has became my new favorite breed
I have 3 of the nuture right 360s and really like them. The good thing about them is if you keep port A full of water and vent half open the first 18 days it should keep the humidity in a good range. Then just fill both ports and open vent fully the last 3 youll be fine
Thanks Bill, im really liking these birds. Great temperament, good layers of super dark eggs and easy on the eyes. I just hatched a few from the couple hens i have. Hoping to have a good stock by the end of summer
