EE gasping 24 hrs- help, please!

Thank you very much! I appreciate it. We've had such a hot, dry time here so I don't suspect mold, but I know now to still look around for it. Thank you for weighing in. We are living and learning o'er here...

EE gasping 24 hrs- help, please!

Oh that is ALL very helpful. It's good to know that fact about gaping, and I hadn't yet heard about state poultry labs and getting a necropsy. Thank you for your time and expertise!

EE gasping 24 hrs- help, please!

Update: Our hen expired last night. It's a relief because she was still having trouble breathing. We will treat the remaining hens with a dewormer as a precaution; perhaps it was something like Gapeworm after all.

EE gasping 24 hrs- help, please!

Thank you so much for your reply. I am trying the article's suggestions. Do you think it safe to try these things/give her oil/fluids while she is gasping? She continues to make the gasping motion.

EE gasping 24 hrs- help, please!

Thank you for your input. How do you recommend I administer Fish Mox? Does it go in the water like Corid?

    Sick 4mo hen

Quite hot -- a high of 90 to 100 degrees each day. I saw her eating this morning. Her tail is low, though it seemed a little perked up compared to yesterday. She still hangs her head low. Thanks for the article. I've attached a photo of her poo. (I must be new here; I never thought I would type...

New - glad to be here

Hello! I'm a new chicken-owner in North Texas. I have always wanted to raise chickens and -- with the guidance of some experienced chicken-owner friends -- finally had the courage to get some chicks. They were also the ones to recommend this site, which has been instrumental in getting us...

    Sick 4mo hen

Any thoughts on how I should proceed with my four-month-old Easter Egger? We're rather worried as she has been listless, separate from the other four hens, and uninterested in food. Today she mostly stayed seated on the coop floor by herself. She can walk, but very slowly, with her head hanging...
