This is the chicken our son came home with

I would say Easter Egger. There are practically no pure breeds that have green legs - none that are common, anyway. I have a seen a lot of EEs that look like that. The comb will be telling, a Sicilian Buttercup has a comb like no other - I can't tell from the picture if the comb looks like a...

    Fence hight?

I have a smallish back yard in the city with 4 ft chain link on one side and 6 ft chain link on the other. My chickens have never crossed the 6 ft side, but they regularly flew over the 4 ft side (Barred Rocks, Easter Eggers, an Australorp, and a RIR), especially when my neighbors put their bird...

breaking dogs from killing chickens/tying dead bird to neck?

A year ago, my German Shepherd mix and Dutch Shepherd mix killed a young pullet. I'm not sure which one started it, but they fed off each other and got out of control. I thought that since they had killed, it was going to be really hard to train them to leave the chickens alone. I live in the...

What the heck happened? One healthy chicken dead in a day!

Update!! My easter egger is back to normal - running around the yard as usual! She hung out on the top roost in the new coop for a full 24 hours, and then recovered over the next two days. Now it is as if she was never sick. I don't know - I think maybe the move stressed the other one out...

What the heck happened? One healthy chicken dead in a day!

I have and use pedialyte - what kind of vitamin supplements are sold? Are there any human vitamins/medicines that can be used for that purpose?

What the heck happened? One healthy chicken dead in a day!

Thanks, Celtic Druid! I understand that she didn't show symptoms of Mareks, but I have read that a chicken who has survived Mareks can have permanent immune system damage - especially in the cloacal bursa. I don't know - it may not be true, but it has made me a little paranoid about recurrences...

What the heck happened? One healthy chicken dead in a day!

I agree, allieloveschickens - which makes me really worried to put my new chickens in there! I painted everything though - walls and ceilings - and I thought that would have encapsulated some things. One wall is brick, the other wood, and the ceiling is wood too. The 4 inches of sand came from...

What the heck happened? One healthy chicken dead in a day!

Her abdomen was not swollen - and she had access to oyster in her run up until a week ago. I did wonder whether she may have fallen off the roost - I thought maybe the spacing wasn't perfect. However, the other chicken looks off too - and the highest roost is maybe 4 feet off the ground over...

What the heck happened? One healthy chicken dead in a day!

My EE continued to be slow and sleepy today - I'm not sure if she is going to get better. At least she has been eating and drinking...

What the heck happened? One healthy chicken dead in a day!

Hello All, I lost a chicken yesterday. She is right about 1 year old - survived a long cold winter, and then died yesterday just as the weather is turning mild and sunny and the grass and leaves are sprouting! She is an Australorp, and was laying 6 eggs a week up until she died. 5 days ago, I...

What rare breeds are these four chicks?

Thanks a lot everyone - that really helps!

What rare breeds are these four chicks?

Yeah - I was checking out the forum on greed-legged birds. I don't think it is standard for any bird except maybe one that I read about - which isn't in the list I first posted. I think I may have all easter eggers - unless the dark one looks recognizable. Can legs change color - do they get...

What rare breeds are these four chicks?

Thanks for the tip! So not all EEs have muffs? I guess some are sleeker than others?

What rare breeds are these four chicks?

Thanks, Mother o' Chicks! I am really wondering about the really dark one - since she has slate/black legs, I don't think she is a wyandotte. I am starting to think that the other three are really EEs due to those green feet - looks like I got a lot more of those than I was expecting!

What rare breeds are these four chicks?

Number four: similar to two, but her colors are more subtle - the legs are the same color, though!

What rare breeds are these four chicks?

Number three - I think (hope) it is a blue-laced red wyandotte - but she's got those crazy green legs!

What rare breeds are these four chicks?

Here is number two - beautiful and no muffs - but she's got those off yellow, greenish kind of legs.

Here is the first - she was completely black as a chick, but has since grown some bronzy accents:

What rare breeds are these four chicks?

Hi all - I recently bought 18 chicks (16 survived the shipping) of a rare breeds assortment. They are now just over 3 weeks old. I have identified most of them - but I need help with the last few! The options are: • Golden Laced Wyandotte • Silver Laced Wyandotte • Columbian Wyandotte •...

See if you can guess breed - 2 day old rare breed chicks!

Are muffs definitive even in day-olds? I guess I should assume all muffed chicks are EEs, seeing as none of them have feathered legs? Do some breeds have muff-looking feathers, but will grow out of them?
