I’m happy with splash too :) There were darker gray chicks… but the salesperson thought they were olive eggers. So are the blue laced reds more gray as babies? I may need another 🤦🏼♀️ Or is it all chance as to what color they feather into?
After bringing her home, I read that she could feather out as one of 3 colors. Is that right? I’ll love her no matter what, just curious if anyone here can tell if she’s more like to be the blue laced red or splash color as a hen(?)
We’re in Indiana, should I leave this vent open through the winter? It’s about 6” x 3’ and sits just a little higher than where the chickens roost on the opposite side of the coop. The coop isn’t air tight, nor is it insulated, and there are small gaps between top and the roof. Also, I plan to...
What information do you include on your labels? Safe handling instructions, sell by, etc..? I’d love to see pics of your pretty labels and packaging for ideas :)
We live in the country with open fields and woods also, probably lots of predators and I’ve been too scared to let them out of their secure run. Think I should still wait til they’re a little older? (10 weeks, 6 pullets, no Roo)
Super interesting, Stormcrow. I never realized there was so much to learn about chickens! And so much involved in raising large flocks.
(I got the Purina so thanks for the suggestions)
I do have one more question: Letting them free range majority of the day, how many chickens do you loose to...
Currently feeding non- medicated Dumor for my 10 week old chicks but need to buy more. Should I be using medicated? They seem healthy & happy now but the stink factor has ramped up. Have you found a food that produces less stink? They’re spoiled pets so I’m not necessarily looking for the...
For the next guy with a similar dilemma, I changed to two shorties on the left side and they seem happy with it :) With the single long bar, they were all crowding down to the wrong side, leaving the mess in the nesting box area, and competing for the same spot. Planning to put something...
Thanks! It’s been a much bigger project than we anticipated but I think it’ll work well. My plan was to do 2 bars on the left side away from the nesting boxes but then we decided to do the 2 big doors. The tallest area would be above the nesting boxes and I want those to stay as clean as possible.
Almost ready for the girls to move in! This coop is about 7’x 4’ and I have 6 chickens. Nesting boxes will be on right side on the floor. Should I do one bar diagonally for 8-9’ of bar space or something else?
