Hello,
My Sapphire Gem has bare back and shoulders from rooster since spring. Rooster has been gone for months. Figured hee feathers would grow back at molt time this fall like the other hens did. She still has not grown any back. Temperatures have been dropping below freezing on and off for a...
If you don't have any yet you will love them. The spexkled Sussex are my favorites out of all my birds. I have one in particular that will "chat" with me. Lol. They're so wonderful.
She has no head tuft and doesn't have the same brown markings on her neck and also no white earlobes like the olive egger. She's definitely a different breed. But I hear what you're saying. I'm glad the other one is actually olive 🤣 at least I got one.

I'm wondering why everyone thinks it's definitely a rooster? I have some Easter eggers with the pointed hackle feathers. Until it was older I was wondering if it was a rooster. It's not. And the tail feathers are rounded and more blunt. I wouldn't write this chicken off until it crows.
You're right! If it wasn't for the tail I'd guess hen as well. I had a black Australorp Rooster. This one isn't as rooster looking. And he had big old waddles. This one may be young. Time will tell.
