Who it's going to set eggs this week?

I've got my hands on 12 Ameracauna X eggs and 2 Chinese geese eggs, all to go into my incubator tomorrow. They are rather filthy -- what's the recommended method for cleaning/prepping eggs prior to incubating? Because the eggs were just layed today, I'm holding them for a day at about 8 C. Can...

    Wings

I tried clipping one wing on a few of the girls, and 2 wings on the other half... but one of the one-wingers could still get over my 4' high fence. Once she was clipped on both wings, no more escapees. I tend to leave those 10 long feathers at the wing tip alone and cut half off the remaining...

Looking for summary of laws in multiple urban/suburban areas

I'd love to see the article or source. My email account could handle the file no problem if you were so inclined to share! Thanks, my township (in Canada) has a draft by-law amendment in progress right now and I've been invited to comment.

    East Ferris, Ontario considering Chickens

Hi, I'm in discussions with my local council regarding changing the livestock bylaw to allow backyard chickens (wish me luck!). One question that has come up is how much waste is generated. My research shows a chicken produces about 1/3 to 1/4 as much waste as a dog over a year, but what about...

About what age to spay/neuter Great Pyrs?

Quote: Interesting. I've never encountered this info in my schooling or afterwards. I'm going to pass along those journal citations to a couple of orthopedic surgeons and see if any vets have seen this as a possibly outcome. Thanks for the info, Brindlebtch. Neil

About what age to spay/neuter Great Pyrs?

Testosterone and estrogen (sex hormones) have nothing to do with when the epiphyses close in the long bones. These are pre-programmed to close at a certain point in development and won't be affected by these 2 hormones. Testosterone will aid in building muscle mass quicker (its an anabolic...

    North Bay, ON

I'm going to approach the municipal council of East Ferris, just outside the city of North Bay, to request that chickens be exempted from the livestock bylaw. I will post my speaking points in the near future, but just interested to hear if anybody out there is in the area and could be counted...
