After hatching, I put my babies outside on day 2. They have their own room right next to the main coop so they hear roosters competing for vocal supremacy and laying hens singing the egg song, acorns hitting the tin, and thunderstorms... they are always bigger than the neighborhood chickens...
My poor Edith, Black Marans, grew up with water belly. She's a 'haus' of a chicken. Took some time before I realized she wasn't supposed to have that big ol butt. Then there's the few hens who have no back feathers because I had too many young roosters... darn clumsy mounters🤨
