My flock still isn’t integrated. I have been tossing around the idea of keeping them separated, anyway. Unless we free range. Barred rocks and Salmon Faverolles. I have a couple Barred rocks that pace the fence line wanting to get to the Faverolles right now. 😟
I’ve redesigned the run today...
Also, it would only have one solid side, roof, and a partial windbreak on the west facing side of the run. Should be pretty protected. I’m wondering if a few fans on the run facing wall of the coop would solve my problems
okay! You guys have me on a mission! I’m going to do more planning and research! Maybe I need to look into fans. Maybe I just need to get more coops. And more runs. And more chickens! 😂😂
I appreciate you guys sending me in the right direction. I just want my girls to be healthy and happy ☺️🥰
Okay. I’m thinking I’m just going to need two coops. If I put 5 girls in there, I’d have to pull off almost an entire wall for ventilation. And with our winters, they’d be frozen chickens. 🥶
Maybe I’ll cut rectangles above the roost area and cover with hardware cloth.
We are putting the run next to the garage and doing an overhang roof over the whole run. I’m not sure we were planning to put the coop inside the run, though. We’d lose square footage of run space. So, it was going to sit just outside the run. We’ll put up wind block as well.
There’s a 4-5”...
Oh good!! We are moving and getting everything set up at our new place. And I was painting the inside of the new coop and it seemed awfully small. However, our young chickens all huddled together in the corner of their current coop anyway. Silly chickens 🤦♀️
The new run will be 12x15...
I bought an OverEZ medium sized chicken coop for a bargain from a closed feed store. I have 5 Pullets that I’m integrating together. I’m not naïve enough to think it can really hold 10. But, will it be big enough for 5?
Okay! That’s a good idea. I was just really worried they’d get cold. Maybe I’m coddling then too much 🙈
I’ll work on putting in a window of some sort on the other side 👍 Thank you!
I brought them in for the night after they spent all day in the coop separated from the other girls. The Barred Rocks all seemed keen on making themselves known. So… I spent today making them a temporary mini coop out of an old cabinet! I’ll leave it in there when I take the barrier away so they...
I pulled them completely off heat a couple days ago. Still in my back bedroom, though. I have a 10x12 run for the ladies right now. I’m going to see about separating a section off for the Faverolles today. I’ve been hesitant about kicking them outside since our weather has been all over the...
Thank you! I just kept reading about people’s Salmon Faverolles needing to be separated and I thought to myself “now, why in the world did it not cross your mind that different breeds might not live well together?”
I’ll be honest, my first and only thought was if the breed was good with children...
I’m hoping this is the case! Our Faverolles seem to pick on each other more than I’ve seen the Barred Rocks do. 🤞🤞🤞 Maybe they are just trying to figure out their own pecking order but I’m hoping they are made of a stronger sort than the norm
That’s so reassuring to hear that yours haven’t been overly dominant. We’ve grown very attached to our Barred Rocks! They are so entertaining. I’ll be sure to do the “look, but don’t touch” route. It’s supposed to be nice here for the next few days, so I’ll start letting the Faverolles go...
We got three Barred Rock pullets (maybe 10-14 weeks old) recently and I spoke for two Salmon Faverolles from the same place to be picked up later. I only researched breeds that would be good with children. Not with each other 🤦♀️
We brought the 6 week old Faverolles home last weekend and...
