Noticed a prolapsed vent 2 days ago. I have been replacing it twice a day using preparation h and hydrocortisone, and keeping her in a dark barn seperate from the flock. Today when I replaced it I felt an egg internally. I tried epsom salt bath, lubing around the egg, and giving her a little...
Thank you for everyone’s response. We started corid and saw an improvement today, eating well for me this afternoon. I checked on him around 1 am and he is panting but sleeping on the Roost. He started passing some pretty large blood clots and wasn’t sure if that could still be coccidia or...
We have not dewormed. He’s about the same today. Maybe a little bit more aware. He is having some amount of blood in the stool with some what look like blood clots that are a bit bigger. We are thinking maybe Coccidia? He makes noise when he poops like it hurts him. The panting as continued but...
Forgot one detail. His poops are white streaked and liquid and very small amounts. He only makes noise when he is pooping, clucking a few times kind of like there is effort behind it.
We lost a girl about 2 weeks ago. We had someone chicken sitting and we came back to a 6 mo pullet dead in the run, no signs of trauma. Comb was well colored and we didn’t notice anything before we left for 3 days.
Now my 1.5 year old roo has labored breathing, not eating, very tired and...
Yep that’s what I thought originally but just wanted to get some extra eyes to calm my concerns about fowl pox. We do have another rooster and Ramone is second fiddle. They do have some riffs here and there but have a good status quo. I’ll keep a better eye on them.
7 month old pullet with eye swelling. It started out as what I thought was just an injury about a week ago but progressed this morning to her eye completely swollen shut. She does have a swollen mass that’s firm on her nasal area right below her nose as well but only on one side. Acting pretty...
Todays update: she was moved to a hospital brooder box, given Tylan 50 3 times today via very careful syringe as that’s what I had on hand, Denagard and electrolytes in her water. She stopped gasping ate some egg and dampened food eagerly and is now yelling at us from the top of the brooder...
I’ve got a young chick who has been sneezing for about two weeks. She had a few episodes of gasping as if something were stuck which always self resolved with a little sav a chick and time. She had been acting fine eating and drinking and not really sneezing often just occasionally up until...
I really appreciate this encouragement and you sharing. Getting into chicken keeping we researched a ton but clearly weren’t well versed in all the pieces as there is so much to learn. Would you be open to chatting more one on one about this?
Just one hen had confirmed Mareks. What I had read led me to believe that then it’s most likely all other chickens in the flock have it in their system as well. Is that a correct assumption?
Is it too late to vaccinate chicks at home?
Hello!
We just got our necropsy back of our 1 year old hen we put down last week due to prolonged illness. Turns out she had Mareks which caused tumors and egg yolk peritonitis. We were new chicken owners and lost a few this year which we now figure were most likely Mareks related.
2...
I’m so sorry about your little beauty. We ended up getting peaches necropsied as well after we put her down ourselves because she just wasn’t improving. She had tumors that were caused by Mareks ☹️ We had another girl with similar symptoms so am thinking that was also Mareks.
Also an update: I did check her for eggbound and felt nothing. I did get her to eat a little egg. I felt her belly and it feels like it’s expanding in and out slowly similar to breathing. Her tail is also moving up and down slightly wish I could include a video.
I’m in vermont so it’s been a 40-50 degree spring here. I have seen her eat little bits. Mostly drinking though. Her crop is completely empty right now.
1 year old amberlink hen who is not laying or eating much with diarrhea that is green and white and watery. She’s still very chipper walking around when we let her out of her crate. She seems to have a slight work of breathing, as in when I hold her up to my ear I hear a little gasp with each...
