They do and I’m actually driving thru that area soon. Price is high but the more researching I’m doing on English Orpingtons the price is that high every where
So Lavenders are really only good as Lavenders? I really do like my Roo he’s like a dog lol. Just so friendly and protective of his girls.
Breed black lavender spilts? To try and improve feather quality?
Could I show the blacks in the county fair?
Not looking to breed for any other reason...
And I’ve spent months trying to find black Orpingtons to no avail. Everyone around me seems to do mixed flocks. And both hatcheries near me only sell Buff or Lavender Orpingtons
A genetic question
I’d like to breed BBS Orpingtons can I accomplish this with a Lavender Roo and he’d act as the black?
Or what other combination can I do with him?
I like my roo.
Currently with him I have 3 black Orpingtons but 2 of them look to have some white specks on them.
4 Lavenders...
Should have clarified. I have 2 coops when is a coop my kids are allowed in whenever they want as there is no rooster. My Orpington coop only my oldest is allowed in. My rooster is beyond friendly and that scares the other 2. He will run for you for a pet lol.
The other coop right now is...
My kids (12,11 and 9) are so excited for this years fair.
Last year our fair finally had birds again and they were so upset we didn’t enter any for our flock.
They’ve been waiting for Chick days to come out to see what breeds are available to raise up some chicks to show themselves.
Our fair...
I agree with the head room that was my initial thought. We no longer have these boxes I gave them to a friend who has bantams they work for her just fine.
Picture 3 is a different coop and I’ve never had an issue with these boxes.
My husband is now on the hunt for milk crates and wants to see if those will work and put them at ground level.
I’m wondering if it has anything to do with having ducks. The ducks have a doghouse they lay in. And the chickens will use it but I do try and block their access if the ducks have laid for the day
Yes I’ve taken the eggs from the ground and moved them up. Didn’t work either. They are actually laying directly under the box I have and I’ve moved them to all different heights. I even bought all new hen this year and they do the same just as the old bunch did.
I have 2 coops. One lays eggs in the nesting box the other doesn’t.
We originally made them a wooden nesting box each hole was 12x12x18. They never laid an egg in it. I left it in the coop for a year. They’d lay outside or on coop floor. Picture 1.
I then bought the plastic ones again...
Horrible picture of my rooster as he just wants attention. But I feel he has good body shape. He tail is minimal right now as he was picked on with his last flock. I just got him in the summer.
I also have this pullet I got for free from Peavey Mart during chick days. They had 3 chicks left after everyone picked up and called me to pick them up. They didn’t know what they were. What do you think? … I’d love to hear Buff Orpington. She just started laying this week. Light brown...
