    Broody hen vomiting

Hi, my chicken Vera has been brooding for a month now, and yesterday when I took her out of the nest box to get her to eat, she vomited over and over again. The seeds and feed she'd eaten came right back up. I also noticed that her poop looks like it's undigested feed. She's been walking...

    Chicken with weird poops

I can definitely ask them to - what do you mean by fecal float? A test for worms? And does it have to be one of the orange poops? Only some of them are orange, which does imply cecal or intestinal lining, but I've never seen them before....

    Chicken with weird poops

She's 7.5 years, so on the older side, but she's still quite youthful. I feed them a 17% non-layer feed, with oyster shells available for them at all times. Most days they get a fresh fruit or vegetable as a treat - greens, tomatoes, berries. As far as I know she hasn't laid yet this year, but...

    Chicken with weird poops

My chicken Vera has been having some weird poops for the last week or so. Mostly, they've had red or orange patches on them, and sometimes they're very tiny and very watery. She has poop stuck to her feathers under her butt, but her vent itself appears to be normal. I'm posting pictures of her...

    Fourth dose of ivermectin?

It's oral. I got it from my vet, who prescribed the 0.01ml per pound dosage, but based on my research that was the lowest possible dosage, so when I didn't see improvement I upped it a tiny bit for their third dose. I'm glad to hear the dirt isn't a big deal - the area they free range in during...

    Fourth dose of ivermectin?

Thank you for your reply as always. They get it orally. For the first 2 doses, I gave them 0.01ml for each pound, but when I saw no improvement I upped the dose by a couple hundredths for each bird. Here are their feet:

    Chicken's feet changing color

I should add - she's standing a bit weirdly, almost like she's standing back on her heels, and she seems unwilling to move her feet much. When I reached out to touch the dark toe, she didn't move away, which is very unlike her - she hates being touched. She just lifted her other foot up like she...

    Fourth dose of ivermectin?

Hi, my flock has scaly leg mites, somewhat severe cases. I've given them all 3 doses of ivermectin so far, 2 weeks apart, and their feet still look the same. The old scales haven't sloughed off, no new scales appearing. Should I give them a fourth ivermectin dose? I tried the smothering in oil...

    Chicken's feet changing color

Hi, this is my 7 year old Welsummer hen, Bon. Over the last couple months, I've noticed her feet and legs being red, and she's developed dark spots. The spots aren't specific to particular scales, the pigment, whatever it is, appears to be underneath the scales. This morning, her right outer toe...

    Chicken's head and feet trembling

I haven't noticed her having trouble seeing, but I'll be on the lookout for that. You're right, I probably should soak her and apply oil - I'll do that and see if it helps. I should probably do it on my other girl with a relatively severe case, to help her heal better.

    Chicken's head and feet trembling

Okay, I got several videos of her but was unable to catch the foot trembling - which surprised me, because I thought she always trembled when she stepped. I don't know if I wasn't watching closely enough or if she's improving - hopefully it's the latter. I'm linking a video anyway, so you can...

    Chicken's head and feet trembling

So, I haven't seen head trembling since the day I made this post, but her feet continue to tremble. She's now started to have loose poops too, which are beginning to look like she may not be digesting her food. She now has most of the symptoms Neo (edit: Neo is one of my girls who just died...

    Chicken's head and feet trembling

Yes, they each had a different illness. I'm guessing it's due to their age plus it turning cold. One, I found dead in the coop one morning - she'd had metal poisoning for a couple years, and we'd been giving her a chelation medication for it. She also had a pendulous crop that I ordered a crop...

    Chicken's head and feet trembling

Hi, I have a 7 year old Polish hen, Vera, whose head is trembling this morning. It's not the shaking that they do to communicate or when they eat, it's more like a pronounced shiver. She's walking around, eating and talking normally otherwise. I've noticed that during the colder months, her feet...

Rehoming 4 elderly hens in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Hi, this is a difficult post for me to make, but I'm hoping it might result in my babies being better off. I have 4 hens (possibly soon to be 3 - one isn't doing well :(), all 7 years old, who I'd like to find a new home for. My parents aren't capable of taking proper care of them, and it would...

    Ivermectin dosing

Okay, so that's ten times what's marked on the syringe and written on the bottle. Is the second dose a tenth of the first or something? Help I'm so confused!
