I’m curious to see where other chicken tenders stand on checking on your feathered friends when they are sick or injured.
Do you check every hour? A few times a day? Does it depend on the illness? Do you have a “if x then y” type system?
Happy Thanksgiving all!
I have a 1 year plus Salmon Favorelle rooster, John Stamos, who broke his wing over the summer mating some of the girls. Poor guy. It healed poorly and he can no longer use it. Until recently he was doing well. Still mating (or trying to) with one wing. Roosting and...
Jan will be 3 this May. Yes. The other who passed was raised with Jan and 4 guinea hens.
Yes!!! How did you know they had wrinkly egg shells!? It was only a few times, but I remember thinking, “hmm that’s weird!” It was usually just the top pointy bit.
I am sorry to hear about your young...
Hi all!
I’m back with another case of EYP/Salp.
1/4 of my Lav Orps has already passed from it. It’s heartbreaking. I’d rather they never lay another egg if it keeps them safe.
Anyway. Janice was dealing with this last fall. I was treating with Baytril and was saying my goodbyes. Her...
I was hoping I’d hear from you! Thank you @Eggcessive!
Fingers crossed the deworming helps, but I’ll dose with Corid as well!
This is the second one like that so I appreciate your expertise!
I’ve had cocci before with chicks. Treated with corid - everyone was great.
Flock is:
2 “littles” 4 months. Barnyard mix from our hen and roo. Acting normal
1 BO who is about 5 she’s acting fine. Head hen and currently mounting everyone 🙈
3 lav orps - 2 years. Vaccinated for Mateo’s and...
This is so great to hear!
We ultimately rehomed both roos. The Brahma was absolutely WONDERFUL. It broke my heart to see him go, but he was so big he was hurting my girls. Now he has 16 ladies to love 🩷
He also was able to have babies. So his genes live on in the flock.
Things sound good...
Thank you! Do you think vetericyn would suffice? I thought the recently backtracked on blukote for not being approved for any food animals eggs or otherwise.
I used it before for Bumblefoot and thought it helped
Didn’t notice an air hole and no oozing. That seems like a good sign. Especially after being submerged.
I don’t think I want to cut one open. I’m not experienced enough, and I definitely don’t have enough pain medicine for her to do that.
Never thought of warts. The feather cyst could be...
Wow! Thank you! These are things I should have thought about. These are relatively new as I haven’t been as hands on as I have a newborn.
I did not touch these today, but the one on the middle back is hard. The feather shaft was poking me because it was rubbing up against it. When cleaning...
I genuinely think some of mine really do. They will “purr” and have fallen asleep on me. Some will come to me only for protection and others only for treats, but I do have two that I truly think come just for cuddles.
