I’ve got an Olive Egger who layed a blue egg this morning and when I took it inside it started turning green in my hands, after putting it in the egg basket it turned blue again. So I guess it’d be caused by the same thing. Isn‘t that interesting though!!
Mine love lettuce and broccoli. I also breed mealworms so when they’re big enough I feed them to the chooks and the literally turn into attack chickens 😂
No, she hasn‘t started laying yet. Her stance is normal (other than the limp). I just checked her abdomen, no change in how she looked a few weeks ago and doesn‘t seem inlarged at all . She seems better than when I checked her a few hours ago. Shes been sleeping the whole time and was a...
Hello BYC forum. My Light Sussex hen (Everest) who is 6 months old, has been quite lethargic over the past few days and not very interested in food/water/scraps ect. Today she started limping and so I inspected her legs and there’s no sign of bumble foot, scaly leg mites or any other visible...
Ouch! Yeah I’m going to start a mealworm farm this weekend so they can have some extra protein for moulting season. I was so suprised when saw the cost of dried mealworms!!
Thank you! It’s my first time doing this and just hearing them shriek if a couple feathers get pulled freaks me out a little. They are starting to moult and so I’m finding feathers everywhere anyway.
I name mine with either a name I’ve liked for a while or something that relates to them. For example my 3/4 Australorp is called Kerri, simply cause I like the name. My Plymouth Barred Rock is named Alana, because it means little rock and a family member has a similar name and they come from...
Hello everyone! I’m currently trying to get my younger hens in the same run as the older ones, but the older ones chase the little ones sometimes…. I have 2 Hy-line Browns who are 22 weeks old and 1 3/4 Australorp who is 38 weeks old. Then theres the new guys, 1Plymouth Barred Rock, 1 Light...
This is a question for all chicken owners, I‘m interested to know what type of food you all use?
I used to use crumble but it got very messy and I had to refill the food pipe (the feeder is a pvc pipe with a 45 degree attachment at the bottom) it was costing me a lot to feed only three...
I have a couple dozen cartons in my craft cupboards for whenever I give some eggs to friends, but I keep all my eggs in a woven basket on my kitchen island. I also only get 3 eggs a day since my other 4 chickens aren’t old enough to lay. So all the cartons I buy I keep just incase ;)
I defiantly still have a lot of things to consider, and it would be years away anyway. I currently live in the suburbs and would only be able to do it if I moved to a farm (which I’d love to do). It would be a long shot but it only came to mind as I have a friend who breeds her broody hens and...
Hi there, I’m thinking about breeding chickens in the future and starting a small business out of it but I have some questions that I thought I’d put out there. Do I have to be registered in order to breed and sell them or is it a good idea? Do I need to vaccinate my chickens/chicks? And what...
Thanks for the advice, no this is my first time owing chickens, so this is my first flock. I think my one of my ISA’s could possibly have had it when I got them as she starting sneezing a little while before the others.
