My bird ended up being Taupe as far as we can tell at this time. It is being bred to a taupe from Brad Legg this year to confirm for sure.
The two hens were bred last year back to the father. The mating produced taupe in silver pied and dark silver pied. No whites were hatched but that was...
If the cock is split to cameo, the chicks that receive a Z from dad with the cameo mutation and a normal Z from mom will be split cameo cocks. The chicks that receive the non-mutated Z from dad and the normal Z from mom are just normal IB cocks. So, half of the boy chicks will be split cameo...
You could do the same with your opal hen as well, but don't use both the opal hen and the bronze hen as you will not be able to tell the split birds apart.
I am going to disagree with Bill. I would put a bronze hen in with him. Putting the purple hen in there will give nothing but but double split males that would need crossover to create peach. You might never get anything. If you put the cameo male with a bronze hen you will get all cameo...
He is one of those could be a couple of things. Could be Pied WE but I kind of doubt it. Could be just WE but I kind of doubt that as it has just a little to much white. If I had to bet, I would take a flyer and say dark pied WE.
I would agree that it looks dark pied white eye or dark silver pied to me but Craig Hopkins has been doing this a loooooonnnng time! Much longer than I have.
I use the plastic bandettes from Cutler Supply. Sizes 12 & 14 in Orange for Males, Sizes 12 & 11 in white for peahens, sizes 8-10 in yellow for juvenile birds. You can see those three colors fairly easy. They do pull them off occasionally. I have started hitting them with a drop of super glue.
