It has been about 10 days since our last update and I am happy to say Miss Dewey is 100% and has maintained that since the last update. Perfect in every way, full of energy (and sass; ugh), eating, running, playing, and all the things ducks should do.
I will definitely take the same approach...
Yep, Miss Dewey is back. She foraged for over an hour yesterday, preened the cat, stood on one foot to sleep, and stalks me with her judgmental side eye if I eat something in front of her - and promptly takes it out of my mouth, hands or off my plate. She threw a fit yesterday and pulled my...
I'm going to call it and say I think our girl is healed! She's going after my toes every time I step near her, she's eating well and even chomped down on her cricket treats. She's back to following me all over the house so she will go back into her diapers today or tomorrow. Lots of tail...
I feel you on this at a deep level. I would be lost without mine. I do a lot of animal and some wildlife rescue (which is how I got her and since she is both a muscovy and imprinted, we're stuck with each other legally and morally. lol) This past year there have been at least 75 rescues come...
Guess what guys?! I walked into the kitchen a bit ago to get a drink, and I hear the 'pit pat' of duck feet. Turned around and Dewey had come into the kitchen!!!!! Her appetite is pretty decent, she is nomming on some cantaloupe right now. Her weight has improved a lot and nearly back to her...
After her bath and a bunch of preening, she ate quite a bit. I turned on her favorite song and she didn't dance or sing like she normally does, but she did wag her tail excitedly the whole time, churtled a little, and ate my toes. She also gave me a 'hug' when I picked her up to put her on the...
Awww, thank you so much; I felt that. 💜💛🧡
I am so sorry about Liliana. What type of glorious duck? I can only imagine how absolutely crushing that experience was for you. We get really bonded to these sweet, docile creatures and it hurts so much to see them ill or have to say goodbye...
We had an exciting moment!!! She took her afternoon float session and she turned it into a full-blown bath! For the first time since this began, she dunked her head, flapped her wings, and paddled!!!!! A few times!!!!
This is a video of her outside afterward, flapping her wings, drying off...
Awww, thank you! I've slept with her nuzzled up on my chest the last two nights for the 'extra' love. She had some blueberries, yay!! She is still doing some light munching on the cat kibble (maybe1/2 cup a day), probably 50+ mealworms a day, likely closer to 75. Won't touch her duck pellets...
Oh my gosh Lacy; I am so so so very sorry. :( I can only imagine how traumatic that had to have been for you. Wish I could reach through the screen and hug you tight.
Also, what are thoughts on at-home euthanasia if there is suffering that reaches the point of being cruel? Is that even a thing or possible? Just want to make sure I'm prepared for it all; wasn't expecting this downturn.
Dewey has had a lot of mealworms, cooked carrots, cantaloupe and cantaloupe seeds, bread that she happily stole from my mouth while eating. lol
But her head is now very warm and her 'brightness' and movements are muted. I'm thinking the last couple days of 'up' may be like a lot of other...
March 31 - Still not walking, but Dewey is otherwise doing pretty fantastic. She really perks up at food now, but is very selective in what she will eat. Does not want her duck pellets, but continues to eat some cat kibble, all the mealworms I can provide, and she even snatched some bread right...
Did her float therapy with the diffuser; for the first time since this began she dipped her head in the water as deep as it could go. Still no diving or flapping of wings during bath time.
Took her outside after for her sunshine and she took at least 20 steps, tried to forage but lost interest...
Gahhhh!!! Dewey discovered that she does, in fact, like live feeder minnows!!!! She just went ham on the bowl they are in and ate about 8 of them, killed a few and lost interest in those, and is saving the rest for later. When I massage her crop instead of feeling her windpipe and bones, I feel...
