Hi! I didn't get notifications of replies - apologies!
There are definitely two cockerels - they were all purchased sexed.
I'll work on better pictures today. I'm trying to figure out which ones are Welsummer. There should be two. But there are red star/sexlink and whiting true blue/green as...
I am leaning this way too. Hoping I can get the breeder to swap one of them out - I have friends that will take two others. We can only keep one as we have two other Roos and 30 hens ☹️ They're the sweeeetest though.
I'm confused too - but not from you! Making sure I get a handle of the differences here before I ask the breeder. :) it sounds like I'm on the same page as you. I just need to figure out why she is calling them bbs if they aren't bbs (I don't mind having a blue and a black, but I do mind...
I read this article:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/difference-between-easter-eggers-and-ameraucanas-with-review-optional.76220/
BBS isn't listed - but the blue barred ones look like the blues in this article. So would it be more proper to say I have two blue and two black...
They look ragged because of awful weather and a wet and muddy run and coop. I cleaned it that day - first real day of sun with no snow or flooding in weeks. they look much better today!
I purchased them from a respected bbs breeder and picked them up in person, met the very separated flock they were sired by. They are most definitely two blue and two black bbs :)
Hi Jed! How long will I need to wait do you think? If they are 14 weeks, I know I would find out by the time they start laying (most likely sometime in March) - but will I know a cockerel before that in this breed?
You're correct - I meant both! So far in my novice chicken life I have noticed that both genders kinda find their young adult and then full grown voices - Roos are definitely more obvious but the ladies get a distinct sound too! But this is only my second set of chicks so I'm still learning so much.
I do! - and increasingly so. I'm a cultural anthropologist by trade before starting a family and I think I'm living my "love all the different breeds and beauties" dreams in my chicken yard. [chuckle]
Hello! Wildcrafting is a mix of foraging for food, foraging for fibers for weaving, and for me, foraging for edible things in which to ferment for beverages. Yum. I live beside thousands of acres of pnw forest - it's a giant treasure trove of goodness.
Thank you so much for replying!
This was three of them them a month ago - much less red combs at 9 weeks. This breed is confusing me so much! I was hoping to know more clearly what they are by now 😂 - and I keep going back and forth.
Hi! First post 🖤
I would love help gender id'ing these four bbs ameraucanas. They are 14 weeks.
I think everyone but 3 is a cockerel.
Also - does anyone know when they'll start showing their voices? :) Thank you so much for your time, and apologies for the post-snow melting health of their...
Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm a couple years in after a lifetime of wanting them.
How many chickens do you have right now?
10, but I'll have 35 next month.
What breeds do you have?
😬😁😅
