wobbly weak legs, falling over, why??

I’m happy to report after 6 days of rehab both Ms Barred and Ms Buff have been released from care and returned to the flock: to recap, symptoms were weak wobbly legs and unsteadiness. treatment: 6 days/overnights separated from the flock inside with food and water -daily scrambled egg...

wobbly weak legs, falling over, why??

Thanks. The only issue is unsteady wobbliness but their feet and legs don’t seem paralyzed or they’d be laying on their sides unable to stand at all. I don’t see any respiratory stress either. Both are hungry and looking to eat. The buff is having a worse time just trying to stay steady while...

wobbly weak legs, falling over, why??

Great ideas. I have two stations set up but probably ideally need 3 or 4. I have one heated dog bowl for winter water. We’ve had such cold winter weather here I haven’t been up there much and they haven’t been out tractoring like they had all fall. Something must have started up recently that I...

wobbly weak legs, falling over, why??

I don’t know their weights other than Ms Buff is much, much lighter than she normally is and her keel bone is very prominent. Droppings look pretty normal, maybe more watery than typical yesterday because they hadn’t been eating enough.

wobbly weak legs, falling over, why??

Thanks so much! I’ll think this through and see what I can do. Do you think they’ll be able to recover from the wobbly-ness with just the food and vitamins?

wobbly weak legs, falling over, why??

Thanks for your reply! Great, I’ll keep doing this routine. I gave each hen a half a B complex tablet this morning. You really think it sounds like they’re being starved?? This is so crazy to me.

wobbly weak legs, falling over, why??

I have two 3 1/2 year old hens we’ll call Miss Barred and Miss Buff, that are showing this symptom: off balance, weak-looking wobbly legs, stumbling and flopping over and using their wings to steady themselves. Standing in one place seems okay, but they are having trouble getting around. They...

    HELP wheezing chicken can’t breathe!!!

I’ll try to check that. she is struggling to breathe with her mouth open though. their feeders are inside their hardware cloth run, and they get out to forage in tractors where the water is enclosed, but no doubt there are birds nearby where they are foraging.

    HELP wheezing chicken can’t breathe!!!

I really appreciate all your help. Nobody has been added since new chicks spring of 2024. I’ve been checking on the rest of the flock and nobody is sneezing, at least not yet. Very tough, this one is really struggling. It’s hard not knowing what to do.

    HELP wheezing chicken can’t breathe!!!

Thank you. She is about 3 1/2 hatched spring 2022. I can’t see or pinpoint anything else. Her vent is clean, no abdomen enlargement. She lays eggs. I was able to look inside her beak and her throat is clear. She had been acting normal all week, eating drinking scratching pecking all the usual...

    HELP wheezing chicken can’t breathe!!!

@Eggcessive I have an open but unused bottle of enrofloxacin from 2023 so it’s clearly old, from a vet from another chicken. would that be useful or is it too old and expired?

    HELP wheezing chicken can’t breathe!!!

Hi, thank you. I can try to upload a video. She is breathing with her beak open and you can hear it. Every few seconds she stretches her neck out and makes a rooster crowing sound while struggling for air I suppose that is wheezing. Her comb is still bright red. None of the other hens are...
