5.5 weeks thinking one cockerel the rest pullets!

They’re going outside full-time this week! Am I correct in assuming just the barred one is a cockerel? Everyone else pullets? Is it still too early to be sure?? I feel like the barred one is super obvious😅

At what point should my older hens care about chicks?

I have 4 2 year old polish hens and 4 3.5 week old chicks. I’ve never introduced chickens before so when it’s warm I’ve been bringing the chicks outside to get some fresh air and forage a little and get some exposure to the hens. First time I brought them out the hens ran over and looked at them...

Posting again now that they’re a bit older!

I know it’s likely still too early but I just wanted to post them again and see if anyone has ideas. The two Olive eggers have very different coloring and the two Rhode Island reds have different coloring as well so I’m nervous I have one of each😅 I got them from TSC 4/7 and they were at least...

    Huge hail storm

We had a massive hail storm and possible tornado?? My house is luckily fine, several neighbors houses are mostly destroyed, we we had lots of hail and stuff thrown around the yard and part of our fence taken out. One of my hens had a bloody head I’m assuming because she was hit with ice. She’s...

How common is it for chickens to fly over fences?

We have 4 polish hens right now and 4 two week old chicks in the brooder. The older hens have always free ranged in our backyard. It’s a decently large yard but nothing crazy. It has a 6ft privacy fence and then a little 3/4ft fence blocking the deck. The chickens we currently have NEVER fly...

    Chicks first time outside!

The chicks had a blast going outside for the first time today! They were only out for 10 minutes but loved pecking the grass and trying chick grit for the first time. And one of my Polish hens were very interested in them😂 They are about a week and a half old. I got them from tractor supply...

Does this Olive egger chick have frizzled feathers??

It’s the least feathered of my 4 chicks right now but it’s tiny feathering looks a lot different and like my frizzled Polish did when they were young

Added a pen to the coop for our new additions!

Saturday morning we added a larger run on our coop since we expanded our flock!! Our current 4 free range and only use the coop to sleep, but we plan to keep our new 4 contained to the coop/run during the day until they are used to our current flock and everyone gets along! We did this in only 4...

Just confirming these guys I got from TSC

They are supposed to be 2 Rhode Island Red pulleys and 2 Olive egger straight run. I’ve never had chicks this little, I got my current polish hens as 4 week old pullets! At what age can I tell if I have a Roo? I’m allowed them I just don’t know if I really want one/don’t want my neighbors to...

Advice for overwhelmed soon to be chicken owner!

I’m getting 4 polish hens from a breeder in March. They will be 3 weeks old at the time I have them shipped. I’m thinking of using a large hamster cage as a brooder for them until they out grow it and then what do I use? I’d like to keep them in the house extra long because I heard that...
