What breed are my 6week old chicks

Still too young to be confident but still looks pink to me. So sweet though. Precious. Looks hen to me but pretty young still.

    15th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Every time I go to tsc here in Ada ok they don’t have any chicks. They had four buff Orpingtons one time and they didn’t look too great. But I’ve got 26 healthy little lavender Orpingtons. 👍🏻🐣

    Rooster breed

As far as getting less aggressive with more hens….doubtful. He’s protecting his girls and whether it’s one or twenty he’s going to be protecting his girls in his little pea brain. Just my opinion.

    Rooster breed

He looks very similar to a little cockerel that I hatched in 2022. RIR mother x EE father. Wish I had a good pic of him. Super sweet little guy. I sold him at the auction.

Judging and choosing best quality lavender Orpington chicks

Thank you. I have noticed some differences in build and in floof. I notice it in their heads and faces. Some are more narrow. I can keep them as long as I want but will need to do some rearranging of pens. Thanks again.

Judging and choosing best quality lavender Orpington chicks

I’ve never had Orpingtons so I’m new to their breed standards other than fluffy, round features. I have 26 chicks and I plan on keeping a few of the best ones. What do I look for in very young Orpingtons? Size? Shade? Beak and leg colors? I’m just not sure if there are parts that will change as...

It’s 26 out of 30 set. Two were blanks and two quit early. All 26 hatched naturally with no problems. 🙏👍🏻🐣

    What could his mix be?

Hmmm. Interesting. My barred rock roo doesn’t have those brown spots but does get an occasional green/black or white tail feather. He does get dirty from rolling in the dirt for dust baths.

    15th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

I set up the brooder. I use a pack and play. I put down puppy pads and set up the heat plate which I covered with press and seal. I’ve candled a few today. It’s day 20. Several look like they’re working on an internal pip. 👍🏻🙏 no external pips yet though. Living on the edge of that incubator!

    15th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Today is lockdown day for me. I pulled the eggs and took out the turner and placed the silicone mat that I use in the incubator for hatching. It has a raised pattern on one side and smooth on the other. It has worked well in my last two hatches. I candled all my remaining eggs and all look...

    Brooder plate protection

I have a tsc brand. Basically just a plate with legs. I guess my main concern is should I just cover the top or should I wrap it completely around.
