7 of the ducklings are female, we still have too many drakes for the amount of females that we have so we are trying to decide what the best option for that issue will be as well
Thank you for tips! Hopefully that will work, I don't want any of them to be injured. This is our first mating season with adult drakes so we are new to this!
We have a large pond that they all swim in during the day and then we keep them separate at night time. Do you have any tips on separating them during the day?
Hello!
Last year we hatched ducks who are now a year old. We had 7, but two were taken by foxes last summer leaving us with only one female and four drakes over the winter. At first there was no issues, however since mating season has started the drakes have become so aggressive with mating her...
Hi everyone, thank you for all of the help and advice. After we saw improvements, unfortunately he didn't make it. We suspect wry neck but are not 100% sure the cause of death. We went to check on him and his head was bent all the way to his back. We picked him up and tried to hold his head up...
He is still having a hard time eating and walking but he is getting stronger for sure! We have been using bandaids on his feet to keep them uncurled and that seems to be helping a bit too! Hoping he recovers soon so he can join the others we hatched!
I believe so, when hatched he was attached to the cord so we left him and it came off on its own. In the photo above you can see the area where the bulge of the yolk sack is and as of today it is much smaller and almost completely feathered in.
Update: no major changes, the area where the yolk sack was is slightly smaller today. He is still having a lot of trouble holding himself up and is still unable to stand or walk. One side of his body is still completely limp. We are still working on feeding him but he is not eating well.
Please Help! Any advice greatly appreciated!!
We have a duckling that hatched early with yolk sack still not finished absorbing. We assisted 36 hours after external pip after realizing membrane was sticky and stuck to duckling. After hatching left in incubator for 24 hours but had trouble...
