    Crossed Beak

I would not trim it at all. I tried to trim mine when she was young and it was bleeding and horrible, and it STILL stayed crosses, so no point to it to me. I guess if there is a part of it that is thin at the end you could trim a little off--kindof where it stops tapering thinner and gets more...

April 2010 Pullets- wanna wait with me?

Quote: If they are like my 6, after the first layer sang the egg song, the others kicked in right away--within 1 week there are at least 4/6 laying!

The brown ones are from Barred Rocks, but the others are EE's--at least 2 of 4 are laying green/cream color eggs.

Yep, getting close! One of my 2 BR's has laid 2 eggs so far, and her comb is about the size of your NHR. She started at 23 weeks though.

when can i switch my babies over to layer ration?

As for the 16-week olds, I would start NOW. My chickens didn't get switched until 22 weeks, and at 23 weeks started laying. The Layena from Purina Farms I give them has added calcium for making the egg shells. I think that helped get them going. With the broody hen--It will be fine. If...

    Still wondering

My barred rocks did that for a few weeks--maybe 2-3. One just started laying on 9-27-10(Monday), and she has a much less developed comb than the other BR that hasn't started yet. She only started the egg song AFTER laying though. Then today I got one more egg from her, and another first from...

    Chicken goes to Amazing Heights!

If you could get a video of that chicken flying up there, that would get some serious hits on youtube. I didn't think they could fly that high, especially without a running start.

    I've got new chicks!

I just put the pictures on my desktop so I know where to look when I hit "browse". Then I go to "Uploads"(at the top in the blue bar", then click "browse" to find your picture--click on it to enter into the box for uploading. Then do the dropdown window to resize it for MESSAGE BOARDS(640x480)...

April 2010 Pullets- wanna wait with me?

Quote: Well, my BR's have been pretty hefty for about a month now, maybe a little more. I was surprised how fat they got so quickly, and the one has had a big bright comb for a month too. The 2'nd BR's comb just grew noticeably this last week...maybe it was her who laid the egg. I just...
